Re: Looking for feedback on a build idea

    +1

I wouldn't spend more than $500 for electronics on that C Beam machine. It's a lightweight hobby machine.

Re: Building my first CNC - final questions

Then you definitely want the lowest inductance, and highest possible voltage.
  3. Re: E-Stop getting triggered when interpolating circles

Assuming you have an Estop button, disable it in UCCNC and see if it then runs OK.
Most likely a noise issue, I would think.

    Re: Stepcraft Homing Function

There's an errorlog.txt file in the macro folder that will give you some info as to why it's not working.

Re: Building my first CNC - final questions

Yes, I use a UC300ETH, and it is much better than a UC100, as it has more features, and more ports.
But it requires multiple breakout boards, as it has 5 separate ports. I use the UB1 breakout...

Re: Building my first CNC - final questions

It's always better to use low inductance motors.

Yes, the UC100 is much better than any chinese controller. But the UC400ETH is better, if you can afford it.
I would not recommend any chinese...

    Re: Stepcraft Homing Function

The standard versions of UCCNC have never done a double homing, so perhaps the Stepcraft version was using a custom macro? That's the only way to do it, I think.
    Lowering your backoff speed should...

Re: Building my first CNC - final questions

It won't hurt anything but the performance. Usually, the inexpensive kits give poor performance.

Most if not all of the cheap chinese controllers do not support all of Mach3's functionality....

Re: BoB selection for closed loop steppers

The closed loop steppers are wired to the breakout board just like open loop steppers. The loop is closed in the drive, and the UC300ETH never sees the encoder signals.

    Depends on how you wire...

Re: Building my first CNC - final questions

You need a LAN port on the PC, and a Mach3 compatible ethernet motion controller. The most popular is the Ethernet Smoothstepper.
I'd also recommend UCCNC, though, as Mach3 is obsolete at this point...

Re: Building my first CNC - final questions

Steppers are rated for their holding torque, when they are not spinning. This will be the same regardless of voltage.

Once a stepper starts spinning, the torque will decrease as rpm's increase....
  14. Re: GRBL 1.1 Cutting arc on the Z-axis using G2 command?

Yes, you need to change planes. Not sure if GRBL supports G18-G19 though?

    Re: JPG / MeshCAM

Yes, but jpg (or other images) won't really do what you want.
You really want to create 3D CAD models of your grips. With a good model, the machine will do 99% of the work for you.
    If this is a...

    Re: Fusion 360 subscription changes

If you pay the $310/year, you can still open your files.
  17. Re: New CNC'er & Seeking CAM Software alternatives.

That looks like a fairly specialized machine. You might want to look at something like MasterCAM or AlphaCAM, but they aren't cheap.

Re: Spindle control for AXBB-E noob question

Be aware that your VFD settings should never allow the spindle to go down to 50Hz, or you'll burn up the spindle.
