Hi, thanks!. Yes the ones I've been looking at seem to come in several price ranges, the higher the price the better the bearings (according to the seller).

Hello,
On those cheap belt drive BT40 spindles. If I do NOT want auto tool change (pneumatic drawbar). How do I hold the tool holder in place? Is there a manual drawbar? Is it as simple as a...
Hello, put together a video of the rotary axis build. Most of it has to do with the physical build of the axis, so might not be that interesting to you. There's a bit on tuning the axis (not too...
Hi Tom,
I'm setting up KmotionCNC and using the screen builder to make some changes and just want to make sure I use the correct axis. Would you consider this a "B" axis or an "A" axis. I think...
Hi Tom,
Had a small setback. The servo drive failed. Not sure why but it fails to power up. Luckily there are a lot of these AMC drives on ebay. I also learned that you can use all the their...
Hi Tom,
Thanks for the insight. +/- 1/64" is great, probably not worth worrying about, but I'll still try out the backlash compensation and see what I observe.
FWIW this is how the gear...
Hi Tom,
I read up on the wiki for backlash. I used the method of moving small amounts until the my dial indicator read zero to find how many counts of backlash. I did this at 4 points (the gauge...
Meant to say G0 moves.
Hi Al,
Yes I have all the settings in the manual for current mode. Thanks!
Hi Tom,
Yes sorry about the video, pause helps.
It is slow! But that is OK, it is supposed to be slow. This is for the stone saw, with feed rates between 0.25" to 1.5" per minute on the XY...
Only took me 2 years to get around to this...Spent the evening tuning the motor. Right now I have it disconnected from the slew bearing, but the planetary gearbox is still attached to the motor. ...
Up until yesterday whenever I did a cut I was always running a GCode program. Yesterday I had a few simple horizontal cuts I wanted to make in a stone. After positioning the wire where I wanted to...
Hi Tom,
After running the init (DRO's were then Blue) I believe I tweaked the global offsets until the DRO's read the position I knew the machine to be in. Then ran from where it had left off. ...
Hi Tom,
Thanks for replying on a Sunday. I tried to init without the zero and managed to get things to work. Remember this is for the stone saw, so a thou here or there wont matter (axis drift)....
Hello,
I was running a long session and wanted to pause the machine for day, and did something stupid. This was the last bit of code that ran:
G00
X30.6715 Y7.0000
(Pause to load Wire)...
Yes that's me. Thanks Spank! Going to be a while before any new CNC related videos... still have about 1.5' of snow on the ground.
Hi Al,
I am in Ottawa. 12A is more than enough, motor is rated 2.8 A, 3.5 peak. Please PM me the details.
Thanks!
Yes that should be good enough. Although hoping it works out a bit better. Once I get power to the motor I'll measure the backlash.
I'm not sure how. It's basically a worm gear, it looks...
Hi Tom,
overall reduction is 18252:1
- motor planetary reducer: 234:1 - gear reducer output 7.7 rpm
- slew drive worm gear: 78:1 - slew gear output ~ 0.1 rpm
Accuracy? Hard for me to answer...
Hi Al,
This is what I found on the motors manufacturers web site:
410364
http://www.dongyangmotor.com/upload/product/Magnetic_Encoder.pdf
I wonder if such a low res encoder is even worth...
Hi Al,
Sorry -24C in the shop... had a screw that needed to be drilled out and I was avoiding going outside...
So far no documentation on the motor or encoder.
I believe it is a brushed...
FWIW I believe what that sentence is describing is the control loop part (circled in red). The velocity command is the +- 10vdc input, and the velocity feedback is the tachometer.

So my head is spinning from reading all the DC servo manuals, as I look for a cheap one on ebay. Analog vs digital, hall/tach/sin/cos/encoder feedback, velocity/torque... lots to learn. The slew...
Thanks. Those will help point me in the right direction once I get my hands on the motor.
Greg.
This probably isn't specific to Kflop but I'm looking to add a rotary axis to my saw. I've come across some affordable (surplus) industrial slewing drives (used for solar trackers). These come with...
The Delta manual wiring diagram most likely shows grounding the shield at the VFD when the VFD is the source of the analog signal, such as when using a potentiometer. However now the source is the...
Out of curiosity, how did you know that the bearings were the wrong ones? If I'm working on something like that I would have just blindly replaced what was in there with the same equivalent bearing....
I would:
- Run a full chkdsk on the thumb drive. Also run one on all drives on the computer that is running KmotionCNC.
- delete unused files from the thumb drive, or ideally just try another...
Thanks mmurray70!
Tom the video is up, hopefully I didn't say anything incorrect about kflop/kmotoinCNC. Video is kind of long, I do eventually get to the cutting and show a time lapse of it.
...
Hi Tom,
I was running at a very conservative 1"/min feed rate. Which had a 'spindle' load of 5.5 amps on a motor that draws 10 amps at full load. During the cut I upped the feed rate to as high...
