    Re: New 5 x 10 plasma build

Well it has been a long time since I completed my plasma table and there have been changes to it down thru the years. Primarily on the gantry using 80/20 alum extrusions. currently I am waiting for...

Re: plans for a 12x6 plasma table

Brendan my best advice is to contact Tom at Cand CNC.com and talk w/ him about your plans.

    Re: Torch height control

Can you get by without one - yes. Can you do consistent good cuts without one - no. Get a THC and avoid problems and non satisfactory results.

    Re: Plasma cutting harden steel?

Plasma leaves a hardened carburized edge after cutting steel. If you can remove a few thousandths with a grinder before milling it should go much easier.
  6. Re: Drove gantry into hard stop, now stepper motor is very noisy

Swap motors from Y to A and see if it follows the move. I suspect it is mechanical also and you will still find it on the Y after the swap.

    Re: Rotary axis

Now there is an innovative plan. I too will be watching for updates on this thread - great job! The cuts on that tubing look great - do I understand that you had to reposition them three times? If so...

Re: Arclight or LDR motion systems?

If it were me I'd go with Arclight. Good reputation across the board. Pricing seems competitive. Best of all you could pick it up and get some advice/training on the machine.

    Re: Looking for some insight

The standard is pretty well Sheetcam for CAM, Mach3 for table controller and CandCNC electronics for most self built tables. Most are using CorelDraw for graphics but that can vary. I use all of the...

    Re: Burn Table Reviews?

Read the reviews for BurnTable and heed. Personally I would look at Precision Plasma, Arclight and Dynatorch.

Re: CNC plasma table gantry parts

What kind of speeds are you thinking of anyway? I find it hard to believe you can get extremely high accuracy from a process that use's an electric arc basically and compressed air or gases to blow...
  13. Re: Newbie with a question about servos vs. stepper motors, hybird steppers

Here is a pic of a pc. I cut yesterday I 3/8 w/ my stepper system. It just don't get much better than this,
  14. Re: Newbie with a question about servos vs. stepper motors, hybird steppers

Blah, blah, blah - they all talk their yada yada yada. Steppers have been used on more tables than servos ever thought about with great results. With that said and out of the way both types are...
  15. Re: Where to find precision square tubing for frame/gantry rail?

Can't say I have seen anyone use tubing as the guide for bearings to roll on. Standard structural tubing should have close enough tolerances in the lengths you would be using if you do decide to use...

    Re: Plasma cutting pipe

Glenn you need to talk w/ Tom at CandCNC.com about this. He is very knowledgeable about it and can help you a lot.
  19. Re: help with removing or reducing plasma divot on the back side of the part?

OK Sean I'll bite - what is that part anyway?
  20. Re: Have all the parts, looking for a table

Try Precision Plasma. Tom (CandCNC) highly recommends them and in fact his tables are made by them.
  21. Re: Questions before I buy a CNC Plasma table?

If you follow Hypertherms cut charts (which are VERY close) you can expect very good cut quality with a minimum of dross on the back side. What dross you will find can be brushed off easily using a...

Re: Help Me Improve My X-Axis

I would put my x axis (and I did that myself) on some PBC Redi-Rail. It makes a great axis. I got mine from Zoro Tools.
I have not affiliation w/ Zoro tools other than being a satisfied customer.

Took a couple of pics of partially completed new gantry. Will have to tear my old one apart to use portions of it to finish the new one. They will be quite different in size and weight.
