Glad to hear you like how the three bolt mod works. Sure makes tramming easier.:)
Comparing a 7x10 to 8x12 is kinda like saying a RF clone mill isn't much better than a X2 mill.
Lathe performance are about more than between center measures.
The 8 x 12 is a totally different...
That is one of the most useful mods yet, great job.
Not to be super critical of someone who is so prolific in documenting mods, but that $30+ for a download seems kinda steep. Guess if the market bears it, it makes sense.
The gear is stripped, probably happened because it was run when it wasn't fully engaged and/or the gear was changed while running.
These gears are made out of, I believe, Nylon 6, which is pretty...
Hi, Does the gear engage and mesh? All you might have to do is rotate the spindle slightly by hand to get it to engage. If you tried that already and it doesn't help tilt you head and take the back...
It looks like the people at Weiss still have the bearing around the taper they just widened the quill and dropped it down outside the head casting. Although it does cause a loss of Z travel I really...
I have ordered ALOT of tool holders from CTC (MT2 stuff not available anywhere in US from anyone). I have also ordered alot of ER collets from them too. I used to order through ebay, but started...
No, I haven't purchased the Alibre CAM module yet (my machines are still manual and dro'd). If you go and sign up for the Alibre forum, which I have only checked out a couple of times, people talk...
Square and rectanglular objects may be "square" and "parallel". The term concentric refers to shapes such as circles, cylinders, globes, etc. (round stuff). When these objects are concentric they...
I use Alibre, it was very easy for me to learn, and it's inexpensive, expandable, and powerful. I highly recommend it.
Is anyone interested in selling their old MT2 spindles?
My mill has an MT2 taper M10 thread self eject drawbar and I couldn't find tooling for it anywhere in the US.
Found CTC tools on the usual auction site and gave them a try. No way can they be...
That's really some nice work, and much more pragmatic than the most of the other ideas out here.
I could really care the least wether or not someone can find a good quality ChiCom product or not. It's really no longer relevant, as ChiCom made are pretty much the only products available anyhow. ...
Hoss thanks for making the video so you could actually hear how the motor was handling the cut.
Another thing to try with the dro quill on these machines is to utilize the adjustment screws than are present on the reader head to make sure their isn't excessive slop in reader/scale movement. ...
I really liked the photos of your spindle, it seems that there's a couple of different R8 spindle 'styles' floating about. Kinda interesting since the Chinese usually seem to get everything from the...
You know it really gets tiring hearing the same old Adam Smith bullroar about wages/productivity being the cause of lost work. Perhaps this was a valid concept back in the day when we were really...
Well I am getting kinda old:rolleyes: and forget stuff, last night I remembered that when I adjusted the gib on the z axis one of the things I did (in addition to resting the head on the block) was...
I'm glad those tram aids are working for you. They sure do make it easier. My machine actually came with the one on the right hand side from the factory. I just decided to copy it and put it on the...
It felt the same exact way to me on my mill. It's caused by all the weight on the head (I think). Once I got that gib set right everything was much better. Remember it's tapered so it isn't uniform....
That tapered gib is kinda tricky especially when your used to the straight gibs. I think you will find if you get that gib nice and tight down in the taper the majority of the "play" your refering...
I lied on resumes, kept learning a little more, then finally after a couple of jobs all those lies actually almost were the truth and I knew enough of what I was doing to pull it off.
In...
Seems the rates have been the same ($60-$80 per hour) for the past 10 15 years (midwest). The wages for the people that do the actual machining haven't improved much either, and they sure didn't...
That's a really neat concept! Wonder how long it will take the Central Machinery version to get to Harbor Freight! Not only do the Chinese not respect copyrights, the Americans haven't enforced the...
Everytime I try to save money when it comes to machines I usually wind up spending alot more in the end of ends, esp. if I "charge" for my time spent 'fixing' or 'modding' stuff I could have avoided...
I just wanted to write you a quick note on how I hand drill. If I understand how you did it, there is a better, easier way. First off, don't use those silly "guides" that keep the drill straight,...
I have the Opti/Top Tech (same factory) Bf20L and it has an 800 watt motor. I appreciate this as I primarily work with various types of steel and that extra power gets put to good use.
From what I...
Sure seems like there could be issues with something other than the mill, you should maybe think about checking your wiring!
