    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

I've not checked my inbox in a long time so a few folks sent questions and may feel a bit ignored. Hope the latest images answers most of the questions. One being the post processor to burn vector...

    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

OK so finally some set up images. So if you have already done the laser set up for line art only using a vector program, then adding the DAC is way simple. The J tech web site shows what the DAC...

    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

So for those of us who have the McLaren P1 of DIY CNC routers, formidable looks, heavy suspension, rack and pinion movements, quite belt driven transmission for all that raw torque! Built to plow a...

    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

Couple of nights ago I finished connecting those 2 wires the DAC / PWM needed. Everything worked the first time. Have to do some fine tuning before posting any of the set up info.

    Question for a...

    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

Couple of things I thought I would point out. In all of the changes made to run a laser I did nothing to the motor tuning. The above cutting board was burned with the stock 199.98 and 15 acceleration...

    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

This is a gift I made last night. 2 watt laser and still using the stock settings on speed and acceleration in CNCRP's pre set XML file. G code done with Vectric Vcarve Pro 8.5.
    Have most of the...

    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

So after months of being able to do nice laser line art I just bought a DAC / PWM board so I can do photographs. Anyone already install one?

    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

It would be the E1P1 / E1P0 that is triggering coolant AKA the laser on and off. If I remember right every port for turning a device on or off would have to have it's own different code.

    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

I'm very happy with it. Not the same as having a dedicated cnc laser or software, but as far as an adaptation goes it has proved easy to use. Most of my work is regular router work and only a few...

    Manual controlled plasma?

So this is just a working thought right now. I have a Northern Hydraulics 375 model 40 amp plasma cutter and I would like to be able to do some small projects with CNC control. I suspect that my...
  11. Re: I can, but SHOULD I? (CO2 laser on Pro 4x2)

I have a laser diode that I run on my PRO 4848 as well as the 2.2 KW spindle. Knowing that laser optics don't like dust, it was made so removal of all the laser hardware was fast and easy. I don't...

    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

So this is how things are set up now in MACH3 to get the M11 command. In the config for the ESS you have to enter the output number# that you selected in the ports and pins tab, this also has to be...

    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

There will be more info posted later. Thanks to some input from Rob at the Warp 9 forum I've learned the dark art of enabling the much coveted M11 command for lasers.

You can use laser software or...

    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

As long as the mount is aluminum. You want as much heat dissipating mass as you can get. I found the Z axis mounting plate to be the simple way to go.

    Re: CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

So this part did not take too long to do. Most was made from scrap around the shop.

A 6 inch strip with one mount hole is what holds it to the Z axis. The top of the strip butts up to the spindle...

    CRP800 + MACH3 + J Tech LASER

With the help of Cory, Ahren and Jay over about half a dozen phone calls, a path to setting up a laser diode on a CNCRP machine has been figured out. It applies to pretty much any machine with MACH3...
  18. Re: Looking at adding a J Tech laser to a CNCRP PRO 4848

It works. The laser fires now. When I get a chance I'll post images of the set up.
  19. Re: Looking at adding a J Tech laser to a CNCRP PRO 4848

The mount for the laser and laser driver are done. After a talk with Ahren at CNCRP the XML file should be set right. Big moment came. Turned on MACH3 with the laser profile, powered up the driver...
  20. Re: Looking at adding a J Tech laser to a CNCRP PRO 4848

Both the 2.8 w laser and the ribbon / BOB are here. Connecting the ribbon and BOB inside the CRP800 is pretty simple. Right now I just have the BOB velcrowed to the power supply. Just copied my XML...
  21. Re: Looking at adding a J Tech laser to a CNCRP PRO 4848

Just ordered parts from CNCRP and J Tech.
  22. Re: Looking at adding a J Tech laser to a CNCRP PRO 4848

OK.. sounds like what you have will fit pretty well with the J tech. I'll try and get a call to you guys before this week gets away from me.
  23. Re: Looking at adding a J Tech laser to a CNCRP PRO 4848

So your talking about the same relays used in the CRP800 to turn on a vacuum or spray pump motor then?

What kind of response time? 5 to 10 ms ?
  24. Re: Looking at adding a J Tech laser to a CNCRP PRO 4848

    Ahren,
What is the rating on the solid state relays that you sell? The one on the DAC is rated 1 amp 24 volts and would be replaced by the one you have.
  25. Re: Looking at adding a J Tech laser to a CNCRP PRO 4848

I'll give a call soon. Have to bug Jay with yet one more question so I'm sure all the parts will play nice with each other.
  26. Re: Looking at adding a J Tech laser to a CNCRP PRO 4848

That should be correct. From what I now understand you bypassing the relay on the DAC and driving the on off trigger to the laser controller with a relay that will operate with 5V 24 ma. That way...
  27. Re: Looking at adding a J Tech laser to a CNCRP PRO 4848

24 ma may be quite a bit, but risks being not enough. I checked with Jay. Some components on the current DAC need 70 ma to trigger. Have no idea of the release date but I understand a next generation...
  28. Re: Looking at adding a J Tech laser to a CNCRP PRO 4848

    OK.. sad but true.

Sounds like a solid state relay would be needed. Just got a message back from Jay, the 5V needs to be backed with 70 ma to trigger the DAC relay.
