I've got limited experience cutting Al, so far. But as soon as one goes from HSS cutters to carbide, the SFM you can get is so high that, I agree, there's no need for those low RPMs.
  2. Re: Need help to buy desktop cnc router for metal engraving!

What sources are you looking at? Personally, I got an OMIO X6, the 2.2kw, and although I had a few hiccups getting it going, plus had to correct a part that was not quite the right dimension, since...

Re: Npn NO proximity sensor question.

To be clear, the test has to be done with everything else disconnected. That's the case?

I would also check if there's any change in the voltage levels depending on whether it's one or both closed.
  4. Re: Is there a way to up the driver current on the tx14207 stepper driver from my CNC

    Have you read this? https://www.cnczone.com/forums/general-cnc-machine-related-electronics/110986-software.html

Replacing with TB6600 drivers only costs about $60, and you can get something that's...

Re: Npn NO proximity sensor question.

Lowering voltages is not what resistors do. They set the voltage to current relationship. Spend some time with ohm's law and the voltage divider equation, and it may start to make sense.

    You can...

Re: Npn NO proximity sensor question.

Ah yes, with no load resistor it is open collector output. That should have been obvious, doh!

Yes, in that case it can be done right with no extra transistor. You activate pull-up on the C10, and...

Re: Npn NO proximity sensor question.

You shouldn't need any negative voltages. Connect blue to ground and connect brown to your positive voltage supply.

Connect a load resistor between brown and black. The value should be high enough...

Re: how do you protect your cnc PC

I use a passively cooled PC in the shop. I made my own, using the H1.S case by HD-PLEX. It was a fun little project! That case is small, but still has a single PCI-e slot, so that I'm not limited in...

    Re: mach 3 dead pc

Well, I'm sure there are a lot of weird drivers with weird compatibility issues, out there. I didn't mean to say that you don't know your stuff. But as far as Mach 3 and PCI-e parallel cards goes, I...

Sounds like the kind of thing that might be solved by reinstalling the software / driver.
  14. Re: Mods, Upgrades and Fixes Thread for 3020 and 3040 Desktop Mill/Router

That MillRight only has NEMA 17 steppers, I notice. With $1000 I think a 6040 would be worth it so you can have an 80mm spindle, meaning ER16 or even ER20 collet, and the same 24k rpm. If it's a...

You'll need to clarify on "Smooth Stepper LPT," I think. A terminal board for the SmoothStepper would be a breakout board (BOB). The SmoothStepper is your motion controller board.

If I get a 4th axis assembly, what reduction ratio do you all think is most useful? The one I'm looking at would be an 80mm 4-jaw chuck, and I can choose between 50:1 and 100:1 for the gear ratio...

If your interest is in solving global warming, there are thousands of people in universities, think tanks, etc. working on it. I think a single invention can only play a small role in that.

Re: Huanyang Chinese VFD settings and manual here!

For that, you need a 24 V variable DC power supply, not a VFD. At 125 amps max output, it'll be pricey!

Also, I think that type of motor has a limited RPM range.
