Re: Heavy steel build, ATC, R&P, Servos

Just to let everyone know that this project is still alive.
However a couple of weeks ago I was offered another Tekcel router that needed a bit of work at a price I couldn't refuse.
    Today was the...

Lol, you say that but that's 1/2" wall box section. Stuff doing that with my Dewalt XR! At least I hand tapped it.

Re: Heavy steel build, ATC, R&P, Servos

Decided to finally get on with this build today.
I started to weld one of the three leg sections together. This is a fair amount of work as the steel is very thick.
I had to install a lifting eye...

Re: UB1 Daughterboard - What features?

Wired up a couple of switches yesterday and a SSR so I could have a quick play around with the board and UCCNC.
Updated UCCNC and Ger's screenset, all works great.
I must say that the general IO...

Re: UB1 Daughterboard - What features?

    Yes, you can use either.
I think it’s worth soldering the linker as it makes a very neat connection.

All soldered now. I'm going to setup my UCCNC test system this weekend, update UCCNC and have a play with the board.

Do I need and update to UCCNC to enable it to see the UD1 correctly?

    Received mine today, thanks Weerasak.

Now I just need to dig out the soldering iron for the linker.

Re: Heavy steel build, ATC, R&P, Servos

Well, after having been let down again by my local fabricator I've actually started on the steel work myself.
Today I made a start on sizing all the structural steel for the sub frame. This is big...

Re: UB1 Daughterboard - What features?

Hi Weerasak, You'll have a customer right here for one of these (possible two as I might buy another UB1). The features as you have described would be fine.

Thanks for all your hard work and...

Re: HEAVY DIY cast iron mill

Drive will be via some 400W DDM servos that I don't trust for production use but will be fine on this for a while. Coupled with some 10:1 planetary reduction gearboxes.
I have an ESS controller sat...

    HEAVY DIY cast iron mill

As there's no movement at the moment on my large steel router build (waiting on fabricator to do the frame) I thought I'd post some information and progress pics for a very heavy cast iron mill i've...

    Re: CNC router buildlog

My apologies, I was looking at the picture of the gantry being painted and thought that it was to be upright. With it down flat as you have it there is no issue.

    Great build btw.

    Re: CNC router buildlog

Just my opinion but I would have put a vertical plate between those two gantry rails. Even a 3mm plate would of added hugely to the overall stiffness.

So this is still a live project. I can't believe how fast this year has gone by.
Hopefully there will be some progress within the next couple of weeks. The fabricator should be welding up the base...

Re: Heavy steel build, ATC, R&P, Servos

A 1/2" Compression cutter needs to cut very fast to have any real tool life (i.e. 600IPM+ cuts).
This will require a heavy and stiff machine so I'd of thought you'd be looking at least at dual 750W...
