    Air op conversion

I finally got off my butt and completed my air op conversion on my machine. Mounted a shortened 2 stage air cylinder without drilling a single hole in the machine. Manufactured supports with 2...

    Re: Probe it

I have a 2017 model so I am not sure we are wired the same. Mine came with 3 RCA jacks on the back and some information on using those jacks for limit switches. I tried to use my touch probe...
  3. Re: Shopmaster Mill Turn rebuild and control conversion

Loved your lathe videos. Are you going to do any for the mill part?
  4. Re: Shopmaster Mill Turn rebuild and control conversion

In going thru my notes on the drawbar analysis I had done some testing to see how tight I normally tighten the drawbar. Number I came up with were 22-25 ft/lbs consistently and that's using the TTS...
  5. Re: Shopmaster Mill Turn rebuild and control conversion

I looked up the info from Tormach. Power drawbar spring #31319. Cost are $2.96 @ and they use 8 of them stacked alternately. OD 1.180, ID .454, .087 thick, overall height .120. I have a question...
  6. Re: Shopmaster Mill Turn rebuild and control conversion

Thanks for the info. I have been thinking about the drawbar situation and looking at the Tormach setup. I ordered a set of Bellville washers from them to play with. Their setup applies pressure...

    Re: For Sale Mill Turn

What year model is your machine?
  8. Re: Shopmaster Mill Turn rebuild and control conversion

An external frame like this would go a long way to minimizing a twisting effect. Would move the torque reaction to the base plate the machine is bolted thru. Ever think about the fact that the...
  9. Re: Shopmaster Mill Turn rebuild and control conversion

Thanks! Look for the headingCUSTOMER MODS ON MILL TURN BENCHthis has photos where someone created an external structure to support the mill bridge at the top. I believe this is where this design has...
  10. Re: Shopmaster Mill Turn rebuild and control conversion

Very impressive conversion. I was noting your limit switch setup. Could I get a few photos of what you did? Also a photo of the mill spindle encoder, if you wouldn't mind? I've collected everything...

    Re: Mill Turn warped table

Wish I had confirmed the DRO first. As for the spindle rotation, driver to switch mill rotation permanently was me switching between manual and CNC on a regular basis.

    Re: Mill Turn warped table

    Thanks for the reply.
I know that I can reverse the spindle rotation in Mach 3. I did that for a period of time until I forgot to include that command once. It was not pretty. If I turn on the...

    Re: Mill Turn warped table

Glad you found your major problem. I had the same issue but it was showing itself as missing steps. I found it by accident when I was taking it apart. Ran the slide forward to take the screws loose...
  14. Re: What is going on with Shoptask/Shopmaster/Chicago Lathe?

FYI I own a 2017 Mill Turn and have been very pleased with it. It had a few bugs, but nothing major. If you want a machine that can easily be used in either manual mode or CNC it can't be beat. I...
  15. What is going on with Shoptask/Shopmaster/Chicago Lathe?

Anybody know what the story is with our favorite combo machine company? I went looking for some technical files to archive and the site doesn't seem to exist. The Chicago Lathe site is kind of wonky...

Re: CUSTOMER MODS ON MILL TURN BENCH

I'd love to get a copy of the drawings for this mod. How do I get in touch?
