Thanks for all the answers.
I finally put a tach on the spindle and calibrated it so to speak.
After several more tests, about 500 RPM with a feed of 4 IPM cut a beautifully reamed hole. A...
Hi Hoss,
still some squealing and chattering and I think I could see the reamer blades stuttering, so I may not have the collet tightened enough. The hole was cleaner than before, but still over...
Thanks for the reply Hoss.
I'll keep everything the same and cut the spindle speed by about half and try it right now :)
back in a few.

Hi tpworks,
could you please post the circuit you are using.
Thanks
Phil
I sure do. Is that what it calculates out as?
Tonight, I measured how much my 'Y' tram was off.
From the front rail on the table to the back rail on the table (about 3 inches) it's off by 7 thou.

Aaron,
can you post a link to where we can obtain new quality gibs?
Thanks
Hoss,
Please don't get me wrong. What you did is absolutely fantastic. I'm not sure I have the skill set to make all the associated parts and so I was looking at alternatives.
Today, I spoke...
Hi Bob,
yes, the original link I posted was the mount. Not easy to find info on this stuff, but it does appear that the 3 inch device (80mm) is n the $70-80 range and the 4 inch device is in the...

Hi Koss,
not sure of the weight or physical size of the cylinder... I'm having trouble getting exact specs. Of course, it may be way to heavy etc. If the required force is 600lbs or so then the...
Great work Hoss and Bob. Nicely done!
Please let me know if either of you would think this might work...
If I understand correctly, we need about 1100 lbs to compress the belville springs. ...
Fantastic!!!! Thanks for the idea Don...
I'll see if I can take a shot at that tonight.

Hi twocik,
This particular issue sounds like the "mill head" and the "column mount for the ball screw" are out of alignment. This is evidenced by the fact that as the head gets closer to the top,...
Hi Dang,
Thanks for the response.
Have you tried adding the Air Spring yet? That could be a good idea.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I thought I would try tightening the Gibs from the...
Hi Project,
Thanks for the reply.
I have my mill in pieces at the moment, so I can't test much, perhaps in a few hours.
I have a X2 Mini Mill, the X3's baby brother. Yes, there is the...
Thanks for the response Dar,
The head has an adjustment from side to side, if you were standing in front of the mill. Adjusting this would take out any lines which are parallel to the Y axis.

Hi,
I have a mini mill self converted to CNC.
Last night and I noticed that when cutting a largish flat surface with a .5 inch end mill I am leaving lines on the work. The lines are parallel...

Rhodan,
What motor and belt/O Ring are you using to drive the spindle, or did this come with the model you purchased?
Thanks
Phil
Rhodan,
Thank you very much for your response.
Your setup is terrific and I am so glad you posted as I would have been off and running down the wrong track with absolutely terrible results. In...

Does anyone have any experience with this and can recommend...
Hi,
I have a home CNC'd Mini Mill which I'm having a lot of fun with. I have been thinking of purchasing a tapping system such as a Tapmatic, but I have no idea which one would be most suitable...
Thanks for all the comments everyone.
Just a quick follow up question:
