That setup is too flexible. You need a sub-plate. Drill the hole pattern, then mount the stock, using bolts, to the sub-plate, then cut the perimeter.
This is such a cool project. Great work. What monitor did you choose?
Wow! That's nice work. And such a nice shop.
Thank you slodat. That's great information. I have a Haas Mini mill that had all the electronics removed before I bought it and this information may help me use the stock spindle motor. I had been...
Slodat, what made you change from the 15 hp Fuji drive to the 10 hp HY drive?
I'm going to have to go without using the Yaskawa motors. I found the drives don't work with step and direction signals, and I'm not smart enough to use Linux CNC. I'm only experienced with Mach3...
Thank you Mactec54!
Also, before they gutted the control, they left the head all the way at the top. Now, with no control, I can't just jog the head down to make it under my garage door because the Z motor has a brake. ...
Hi again. I went to inspect the Mill today, but I couldn't get pictures of the motors. It should get delivered on Saturday, then I can collect more information after I pull the way covers. The...
Hi everyone. I just bought a 2005 Mini Mill. It has had all the controls stripped from it. The mechanical condition looks good.
My intended use is as a hobby mill making gun and airgun one-off...
Yes, definitely better to stay with a purpose built machine like the PM25. They make an R8 4" 3 jaw chuck. I did a lot of cnc turning with one on the 8x30 vertical mill I used to have. For short...
I've made this machine. It's been a real challenge to keep everything square and in tram. The motor on it now is a 3 phase powered by a VFD. It rises and falls with the head. I had surface finish...
It looks like a project, but might be worth it to the right person.

Hi Steelcogs. How are you controlling your DMM servo? I just ordered the same one for my machine, and I'm not 100% clear on how to connect it so Mach3 can control it. Any information or links to...
For that, I would make a fixture to hold the part and use a hand router with a bushing to follow a simple template.
Search Franco CNC on YouTube. He has really good cad models of the PM25 linked in one of his videos.

This looks great! I can't wait to try it out. My machine is being rebuilt currently. Thank you for sharing this!!
Mike
Check out this video. I am going to use this product to set my mill in tram.

I know they can use an XBox control, but I REALLY like my Shuttle control in Mach3. If Acorn would use the Shuttle, I would be more open to adopting the Acorn system.
I would guess about 10 inches per minute at .035 depth of cut with a 1/4" endmill. At the size you listed that's about 18 minutes.
I do it all the time on drills.

Ger, have you tried the Leadshine AM882 driver yet? If so, what do you think of it?
Thanks,
Mike
I use chain saw bar oil. It's tacky like way lube. You can get it at most hardware stores. I apply it from a squirt bottle.

Green drywall might help. Use as thick as you can find to add mass, but you want to use resilient channel to hang the drywall. This decouples the outer layer of drywall from the inner enclosure. If...
For manual milling, I always had good success using a Shuttle Express devise. You might also look at the wizards, although I don't know if they work in demo mode.
Check out grabcad.com. They are there.

I can't comment on the smooth stepper. I have a Shuttle Express and I love it for setup and manual work. I also had the Shuttle Pro and it was great too. I have recently be trying this wireless...
That computer could be a problem. It's hard to tell at this point. They may have designed it a lot like a laptop and used laptop technology to achieve it's small size. The two problems I know...
