All 30 threads have now been threadmilled . The cutter is still sharp and still in one piece! Settled on three passes, 4000 rpm and a 85 mm/min feedrate.

Craig,
Many thanks for taking the time to reply in such a clear and detailed way. Much appreciated. I have a simple cutter grinder and will take up your advice.
John.
Many thanks guys. I know this is not the easiest way of making threads but I really don't want to hand tap 30 holes.
A good point made regarding going in slow for its first cut.
The thread mill...
With the absence of advice, apart from do it another way! I am going to try a step over of 0.2mm, (0.008" ), a feed rate of 90 mm /min (3.5" /min) and a spindle speed of 7000 RPM and see how I...
Hello I have a piece of 1/2" cold rolled steel I wish to make a fixture plate for a SMW Mod vise on my 770. I have chosen to thread 1/4 -28 rather than 1/4- 20.
My Cam software supports thread...
I did check the two inserts that I fitted for height and were within 0.0005" Don't know how close they should be. I dare say if I tried different insert faces or use the other two fittings I might...
I have read with interest comments regarding using face mills over the superfly. I also have a 770. The main reason to using a FM is balance. Any 770 owners who have accidentally started their mill...
Cliff thank you for explaining what adaptive roughing is. Regarding pocketing hard steel I saw a video of a Dijet 1/2" insert modular tool that Tormach sells cutting through a 123 block. This tool is...
Am I right in thinking that threadmills have a recommended diameter range that they should be used for. I imagine the clearance angles on these cutters are designed to cut threads little bigger...
Yes that is correct. If it were easy I would add a third oiler so each axes had its own feed. If I ever, god forbid have to remove the X axis table I would be tempted to change the connections to...
Attached photo of second oiler fitted to 770.
I too added a second oiler.
Have ordered a 0.005mm level from China to check if I have any twist.
Many thanks Cliff for your time putting together yet another interesting, informative and useful video. Spot on.
Regarding the tool setter you are developing for the 15L. If I was in the market for...
Yes of course. Sorry for asking such a basic question!
I finally got around to upgrading to PathPilot V2 without issue. However, what I have noticed is the monitor screen appears too bright since upgrading. Is there a way of altering this? I am using...
At the risk of irritating MotoTech further. The collet you are discussing looks very similar to the Lyndex I have, including the the brass deposit on the side of the slot and the brass coloured end...
@Mike. The wrapping paper I think is produced in India rather than the collet. I looked up the company you mentioned.
@Turbostep. I have a Lyndex collet boxed and unused. Happy to sent it you for...
TurboStep. I have used Rotagrip mostly for taps and dies. They sell Crawford collets also.(no longer made.) Always had good service and fast delivery.
The new Tormach replacement R8 Lyndex Collet also has these flats either side of the slot. More important is shorter and smaller on dia than the original, as high lighted in an earlier thread.
I...
That appears to be their view. I have since bought a UK made Crawford collet which is in spec and is identical to my original Tormach collet apart from the front face needing to be ground flat.
I had a reply from Tormach regarding there new shape, shorter and smaller dia shaft collet. They stand by their new design saying that it is to overcome historical clearance issues with the TTS tool...
A quick look on the internet gives the R8 Bridgeport collet shaft dia as 0.9495/ 0.949". So my original is within tolerance of a standard R8 collet and the Lyndex differs by a thou.
Regarding the...
I have had delivered from Tormach a replacement collet for my 770. This part is made by Lyndex in the USA.
I have been lapse in the maintenance of the original but on removing it all seems good,...
Hi Cliff, the LED style tool height setter might take a few more seconds. Move the tool down till the light comes on, move it up till the light goes off, then jog it down till the light comes on...
There is about 3mm of over travel which I find is plenty when manually touching off. As soon as contact is made with the tool the light comes on. Have used it hundreds of times and never bottomed...
Hi Cliff. Yes it has a sprung loaded plunger Drawing should be self explanatory. Metal plate added to torch base to complete circuit.444366
My favoured way of setting tool offsets is to zero the z axis on a flat surface with the Haimer (tool 50) Then I use a home made setter which has a height of 31mm. The thimble is sprung loaded and...
Thanks for your reply popspipes. The web site has two patches V 1.5 and V1.4 I think I have added one extra patch since I bought the box which may have been V1.1 so there may be a V1.2 and V1.3...
I have been using the Moonlight prototype Ninja knob box to control my feedrates etc with no issues. However I am still using Pathpilot 1.9.12 update.
I have the usb drive to do more current ...
Thanks guys for your suggestions. I think I will go for the Tormach recommended key board.
