Oh, I also tried it out without the G12.1 with even stranger results, the machine would jump in positive *Z* ~.25" after the first G01X_C_ move.
still don't know what to make of that.
And yeah,...

hah, 3 things.
Now they just want 2 flats 180 degrees apart, instead of a square.
and using g12.1, this code did not work. the X axis went out to x5.something and overtravelled.
:(
OH,...
fizz, thanks for the help!!
that does make sense, i just wrote out the code in about 4 minutes.
but do I need to be in the g12.1 mode for that to work??
I really don;t understand the G12.1, it...
Hi all!
I have a new Miyano BNC-42 that I am trying to do some milling on.
I am trying to use the z-axis live tool to mill a square on the face of the part, but the machine only has X and Z...
Wow! thanks all for the replies!
This is on a Citizen A20 machine.
We just run regular old screw machine oil in all of our machines.
I'll drop that SFM way down and see what happens!
And...

Hi all,
I have a 2007 Citizen A20 that has started giving me Pneumatic Pressure alarms all the damn time.
At first I just thought it was a supply issue, but I put a little air tank with a check...
Ahh, I never thought of that. do the feeds & speeds look reasonable??
thanks!!
Make sure to change the Sub spindle mode in the Machining Data page to "with basket" or similar.
Then the M34 should work fine. :)
Does anyone have any tips for drilling Ti??
I'm drilling (or, not..) a .096" Hole .70" deep in CP2 Ti, and getting 4 parts out of a solid carbide drill.
I've made sure everything is on...
Not to beat a dead horse, but I use one all the time, and it works really really well.
One nice thing about it is that it uses a screw for adjusting the diameter, so you can adjust it a tiny bit...
Pixman (and everyone else) Thanks for the replies!! I ordered a Carmex thread tool (er16 insert in a 10MM holder! sweet!!) .. Inserts are $16 each.
I'll try to remember to post back up here and...
Hi all, I was wondering what your recommendations for swiss threading tools are. (yes, this is inspired by my other thread about 316.)
Requirements:
Economical (though I know I am currently...
And it is not going well.
Part is out of 10MM 316ss, 3" long, some small RH threads, 1.5" of 10MM LH threads, +/- .001"s all over the damn thing. (it's a fancy ridiculously over-engineered...
Yes, you will use G12.1, right after use a G19 to change your plane from X-Z to Y-Z .
G16- Plane select y-Z Cylindrical machining.
G17- Plane select X-Y
G18- Plane select X-Z normally used. ...
I would also check the chamfer on your part before thread rolling. I;ve found that rolls like to have a 30-ish degree angle (in the z direction), otherwise it puts too much stress on the first thread...
Hi all!
I'm looking for some starting feed/speed info for turning and x-drilling some monel 405 on a swiss. I've never ran any monel before, and am having a hard time finding any info online, except...
Hey, I run bunches of teflon.
What elsanch said. I made a holder for teflon that has a slot in it for a peice of razor blade to fit in, and some tiny set screws to hold the blade in place. this...
looked into it and it sounds promising, will it bond to carbide??
Hi all, I have a somewhat strange question. I have to opportunity to use a bunch of scrap carbide to make a sculpture. I know I can join carbide to carbide with brazing, but the brazing won't hold...
Hi all, I have a citizen L20 that somehow the little key inside the Guide Bushing sleeve sheared off. Does anyone have an easy way to take the remainder of the key out so i can put a new one in??...
Does anyone have experience turning this stuff? We have an RFQ from a customer and want to know how to quote it.
The ceramic part makes me nervous since it seems like we' want to filter the...
Some controls can only support a few lead in angles. (the last 2 numbers in the P word in the first G76). I bet that's what the improper G76 alarm was about. My citizen will only take 0, 29, 30, 55,...
Hi all, I have a citizen L20 (V) that's somewhat new to our shop and I am haivng a funky issue rear it's head the last few days.
I am running 1/4" hex leadloy stock and it doesn't want to hold...
Grind up a "tube grind" cutoff tool ...usually when you are cutting off you have the cutoff angle in one direction only(toward the part you are cutting off), a tube grind has an angle in both...
Hi all, the chuck sleeve on our older (1995) Citizen B12 has started to develop cracks.
We welded it back into working order once, but it did not last very long, and a new one is 3-4 weeks out...
Along with the above, I'd also consider taking out the R.03 from the
G84 Z.570 R.03 F.03125 S300R1
line of code, or starting much farther back. With that code, you are starting the tapping...
Hi all, I'm quoting a part out of Invar 36, (36% Nickel, the rest iron) and am wondering what this material is like to run on a swiss. the part isn't too complicated, just some turning and a blind...
How sharp is "sharp"??
You can use progressively smaller endmills to get to the corner radius you need (no matter what you do, there is ALWAYS gonna be a radius. even if it's .00001, it's still...
From what I understand on how ER collets work, the surface area of contact on each "leaf" shouldn't affect the accuracy. The forces should all still be balanced around the tool. (the pressure will...
