    Re: Linear Scales

Nothing wrong with ESS and Gecko.

One way to do that is to use a G83 peck drilling canned cycle with a final step down of 0.25mm, but this is not my prefered way. I do have a G83 canned cycle in...

    Re: Linear Scales

Yes, they will handle any motion required in a CNC application.

But the Galil controllers will not read G code directly, it has to be translated into command lines that the Galil controller can...

    Re: Linear Scales

LinuxCNC and Mach3 are both software motion controllers in that they do trajectory planning.

But the Galil products are true motion controllers, the trajectory planning is all done onboard via a...

Re: Can we make this in the USA?

    My pleasure

Your machine time cost can't really be $0, as you say, tooling, power, and maintenance all have a cost. As I said above, my actual machine time cost is about $5/hr in direct...

Re: Can we make this in the USA?

Yes, that could be done, but it would certainly destroy the finished look of the product. One could put a farrell on the end of the tube, similar to the end of an air hose to finish the end.

    Let's...

Re: Can we make this in the USA?

Yes it can be done on a single machine. But you are not going to make them in-house for $2 unless your machine time rate is $0. I don't understand how even the Chinese can produce that part for $2...

    Re: G-code editor

Fusion has a thread milling function built in, I use it all the time.
  8. Re: Is CNC Macro it's own language, or would knowing other programming languages help

All programming languages are the same and all programming languages are different. Logic is logic and common to all languages. The syntax and format of languages are different and have a few...
  9. Re: Cheetah II DC Drive And AcornCNC controller

Using the KBSI-240D can't hurt, another layer of isolation is a good thing and will give you piece of mind. If you look at the schematic, the signal lines are isolated from the AC input power by...
  10. Re: Cheetah II DC Drive And AcornCNC controller

According to the manual schematic pins 2 and 3 form a standard 0-10V comparator input circuit. Pin 2 is common, Pin 3 is the 0-10V command signal.
  11. Re: Cheetah II DC Drive And AcornCNC controller

That's the way I read it. Looks like pin 2 is the common or signal ground.
  12. Re: KENT / AMERI SEIKI KMV 40 MAYR SMARTFLEX COUPLING x- axis ( table)

You mention ''excess'' wear. There should be no wear at all. If the coupling is slipping on either end, there should be some galling or grooving in the mating parts. I assume you have witness...

    Re: Help with servo suggestions

The HF interference generated by a plasma torch is a concern. Proper grounding, filtering, cable shielding, and cable separation is especially important when wiring up a CNC plasma. I managed to...

    Re: Help with servo suggestions

I'm not able to find any information on the motor you list.

If you want to use Mach3 then I would replace the servo motors and drives with modern hardware that has the correct form factor and...

    Re: Stepper gearboxes ??

Steppers are generally best used at low speed. Normally a 2:1 reduction is OK. There is a lot more that goes into the calculation. What torque and speed is required? To use a stepper motor I...
  16. Re: New to CNC Machining - What type of Quick Chage Tool Holder is this?

That looks like a Kwik-Switch tool holder. But remove the upper nut and I'll bet you find a standard NMTB 40 taper once you remove the Kwik-Switch adapter.
  17. Re: Need to flatten 5/8" thick aluminum plate

Without flattening out the plate before machining on it, you will wind up with a plate that is about 1/2 inch thick.

You are going to have to heat and press flat before machining to true flat. If...

It's an issue with any new machine installation, they need to be leveled and aligned when installed. That's part of the commissioning process for all new equipment, the machine manufacturer makes no...

Re: 3 jaw vs 4 jaw

The main advantage I can see with the 4 jaw is that you can turn square parts. It may hold a part a bit better, but the pressure is spread out over 4 jaws rather than 3 so that may be a wash. There...

Re: How to Wire EMI Filter for 220v VFD?

Yes, on the line side, L1 to one side and L2 to the other. Load side, the same.

All grounds should be connected to the panel at a single point to help prevent ground loops.
