  1. Re: Fixing gantry skew through machine settings?

Good to know, I didn't get into the scripting side of the controller, but I guess I'll have to jump down that rabbit hole.
  2. Re: Fixing gantry skew through machine settings?

You do the squaring by software or physically?
I can force the gantry into position by pushing one side and making the stepper motor jump, but the it moves in approximately 1mm steps, which is a bit...
  3. Re: Fixing gantry skew through machine settings?

For this machine, it really is the opposite case.
  4. Re: Fixing gantry skew through machine settings?

The machine is based on the OpenBuilds OXCNC, the gantry is 1.5 meters wide and it's driven by G3T belts so as you may imagine is not very rigid, specially when it's turned off and the Y axis motors...
  5. Fixing gantry skew through machine settings?

I've built a fairly wide CNC machine and there's a small skew in the gantry which would be easier to fix, I think, via the transformation settings for the machine. I adjusted the values in the...
  6. Re: Mk2/4 tool sensor input not working, damaged buffer chip?

Hmmm, looking back at that I think there's a big issue, the GND in the power supply is not actually connected to Ground (Earth Ground), and I don't think it would be a good idea to connect them...
  7. Mk2/4 tool sensor input not working, damaged buffer chip?

I upgraded one of my CNC machines with a VFD controlled, 0.8kW brushless spindle and seems that has caused damage to the control board from stray currents from the spindle.
    The tool input is always...

Re: 5 Axis 3D toolpath display problem

I loaded the profile and it seems to work, I suppose it works by automatically reading the 3dObj.txt file placed in the same zip file as the profile settings.
    Although the toolpath is still...

Re: 5 Axis 3D toolpath display problem

By the way, I don't understand what you mean by "It is possible to show 3D representation of your machine with help of 3dObj file" I don't see anywhere the option to load a 3dObj file into TNG.

Re: 5 Axis 3D toolpath display problem

I will prepare the files to send you ASAP.

I was just tinkering with the machine, setting it up for a test run by first doing a surface measurement (which didn't work, more on that later) and that...

5 Axis 3D toolpath display problem

I've came across an issue that has me scratching my head; I built a 5 axis machine with the primary B axis parallel to the Y direction and the A axis as secondary rotating parallel to X. I Enabled...
  12. Re: TNG, can't see 5th axis controls/info.

Thank you, one more thing, is there a way to show the actual tool angle on the 3D view, it will help in configuring the rotation axis. Now I'm trying to figure out why the tool points in the wrong...
  13. TNG, can't see 5th axis controls/info.

I finally put together my 5 axis CNC machine and when I go to test it I'm stuck with the issue that I can't see the B axis on the UI, no controls for jogging and no position information. The other...
  14. Re: Can't connect to Mk3 controller , status LED flashes once per second.

I found the issue, in Settings > Connections it was set to simulation mode, I had to change it to the Mk3 controller.
  15. Can't connect to Mk3 controller , status LED flashes once per second.

Finally I finished assembling the control box for a new machine, turned on the power and... no response.

The board gets power, the Power Data and Link lights are solid on but the Status one blinks...
  16. Re: TB6600 stepper drivers and Mk3 controller

To answer my own question, the GND for the motors power supply and the controller were wired together to create a common ground between the 12 and 24 Volt circuits.
  17. TB6600 stepper drivers and Mk3 controller

I'm wiring up a control box with one Mk3 controller and 4 TB6600 stepper drivers and before I power things up I thought I better make sure I have the wiring right.

My main concern is that I'm...

    TNG and 5 axis milling

I've been using a Mk3/4 Planet CNC board for a few years already, also tried other boards and software during that time, the Planet CNC stuff still works best for me.

    I'm looking into building a...
  19. Re: Recommendations for DIY spindle bearings.

You are right, they are deep groove, not angular contact. I should use 708 bearings then?
  20. Re: Recommendations for DIY spindle bearings.

Last night I ran the 3D printed spindle for some time, following some break-in steps I read somewhere. The front bearings get hot quickly, so either they are the wrong type or maybe I preloaded them...
  21. Recommendations for DIY spindle bearings.

Hello there, new member here, I hope I'm posting this in the right place because, goodness me, you guys have a crazy amount of sub-forums. :p

A few months ago I bought a 3040 style Chinese CNC...
