    Re: Water cooled spindle

    Hi matey.
    Well in terms of sizes:
ER11 collets go up to 7mm diameter.
ER20 collets go up to 13mm diameter.

You said you want to use 0.5" shank tooling (1/2" I assume your meaning) which is...

    UCCNC400ETH & Mach3?

    Noob question.
Anyone using this combination of UCCNC400 & Mach3?
I've seen a plugin for it but is the setup stable?

Should I just go with the ESS Smoothstepper and not look at anything else...
  4. Re: Will it help if I smash my UC400ETH with a hammer? Sooo ready

I saw possibly an important bit of information today for the UC400eth while looking at ethernet controllers.
It said if you connect to PC via a router/switch use a NORMAL ethernet cable.
    If you...

Poll: Re: How fast is your homemade CNC?

This is where I'm glad I went overboard for Nema34's on my PM25 clone.
At 400rpm (2000mm/min) the torque figure is almost identical to the Nema23 motor from a similar model line.
    When it comes to...
  6. Re: MasterCAM Machine & Control definitions for X2 CNC conversion

Looking around it seems a fair few hobbyists have moved over to Fusion360. Might be worth having a play with that.
As far as I'm aware you can get it free for hobbyists (don't quote me on that as...

Re: No motor movement Warp9 ESS+C11+Mach4

I'm just as silly. I had no movement on my mill.
I have it wired with the Enable wires connected to drivers. pul/dir are active low, had enable set active low as well.
Turns out enable needed to be...

Poll: Re: How fast is your homemade CNC?

Not fast enough! 80ipm reliable rapid moves which was a little disappointing. Got some resonance which isn't helping things.
Only have 3000rpm max spindle so limited to around 20-24ipm cutting with...

    Re: Poor surface finish

Looks like my Sieg X2 does.
Mines mostly down to a wobbly screw rocking the table which you can only really see if you run a DTI across the back of it.
I should never have used thrust bearings on...

    Re: Power Supply Size?

This is when seeing some of these Chinese sellers flogging 23 sized motors with an inductance of 6.6mH and above leaves me scratching my head!?
  11. Re: NEMA 34 and DM860A. Low Speeds Stepper Motor Sounds Awful

I've got the same issue with my 1600oz on the Z at 1100mm/min and over. Stalls at 1400mm.
If I put an 1100oz on it it's fine up to 2000mm/min before stalling.
    1100 are 4.1mh and 1600 is 5.5mh...

Re: Budget coolant/mist setup? Or no

I prefer to run flood. My area would be too small for misting I reckon.
    Inexpensive system I put together:
The pressure blasts them pesky chips away :)

  15. Re: Mach3 errors / crashes after trying to set steps

I actually gave up trying to get Windows 7 to work reliably on my machine.
Reverted back to my old XP os. I've had no problem with Mach running on this.

Re: Rocky the Benchman with Homebrew ATC

I came across this design for a power drawbar.

I reckon you could get the air ram, valve & belleville's for not much money, make the mounting kit parts...

    Re: AMAT25LV Basically another PM25 clone :)

Fitted the oil pump. Decided to use the manual lever one for now.
Presto, the oil went to everywhere equally first time. It's about time something worked!

However the 4mm tubes going to the head...

    Coolant relay.
So. After realising I had the 5v + & - wired the wrong way round from the bob (because I'm stupid!) I finally got the solid state relay to work.

    Used a 3 pin kettle/PC type...

    Re: PM25 Conversion Up/Tolerance down

What bearings are you using? AC , thrust or normal?
AC - Check the preload is right. (best type imo).
Thrust - Crap to use on some of these screws.
Normal type - Can't preload that well, always...

    Re: PM25 Conversion Up/Tolerance down

I'd probably increase the X backlash comp if your sizing setup is correct.
I had the 12mm screws in my X2 to start with and wasn't impressed.
Now. With those in I could measure backlash as 0.04mm...

Re: Come on Tormach - We Want a Mini Slant Pro

Can get a manual 550w mini for £500 ish that's also slightly better spec in sizes and taper. Then add your own cnc bits. Likely to be 10 times better than...

    Re: Auto Tool Changer

Excellent job done on that mate :)
    Very impressive.

I've got a spare spindle from a mini mill crying out to be used on a carousel for one of these.
Look forward to seeing a video in the future

    Re: No stepper movement.

Anything is possible at this stage.
    The diagrams I've seen so far have the jumper/bridge wire either + + + or - - -.
It theoretically suggests there that you were more or less bridged - - +. There...
