    Re: Electronic tool setter NC?

Non Tormach user here, but if you run coolant make sure you keep that WH Probe dry. It does a decent job of not opening when it’s full coolant.
  2. Re: geko540 and the g0704 mill cnc conversion kit questions

You can only run your motors at whatever max amperage they are rated for. Your drives should be setup to keep the amperage just under that rated value.

For the Nema 34 the motor is rated well over...
  3. Re: geko540 and the g0704 mill cnc conversion kit questions

It will work fine with the 32 stepper. Holding torque will just be reduced as you can’t achieve the maximum amperage.

As for the couplers, you may be out of luck. There should be 3/8” shaft nema...

    Re: PM25 Conversion Up/Tolerance down

Believe it or not, I switched drivers a while back and had a similar issue. Great looking work!

    Re: Upgraded from G540 to 4 x G214

I’m fairly certain you’ve changed too many components to accurately attribute your new found performance directly to the new drivers. The smoothstepper alone likely made the difference. You probably...
  6. Re: Rocky the Benchman with Homebrew ATC

I know absolutely zero about the specific technical specifications of the Benchman mill. So I can't help there. That said, I googled it, and it looks pretty cool.

What type of drawbar does the...

    Re: PM25 Conversion Up/Tolerance down

    Man, that's a tricky one.

That screw play probably ins't a big deal when the stepper is supporting it at the end, and ball nuts aren't designed to loaded sideways, so even really tight ballnuts...

    .003" x 2 = .006"

    .05" off.

    Backlash isn't the issue.

Steps per unit will be repeatable even if wrong.

    Re: PM25 Conversion Up/Tolerance down

Maybe recalibrate your travel (i.e. steps per unit of travel).
  11. Re: Rocky the Benchman with Homebrew ATC

The tool holder is pulled into the spindle, this is done via many methods, but with an ATC it's not usually threads (there are exceptions, Novakon being one). What you need to look up is how power...

    Re: Auto Tool Changer

A kit would be really cool, and depending on price I might be interested in buying one for my G0704.

Probably all the machined parts, components, and macro should be included, with exception of...
  13. Re: Tormach PCNC 770 - Mach 3 - Windows 10

This kit is available from Tormach - https://www.tormach.com/store/index.php?app=ecom&ns=prodshow&ref=PP770-UPGRADE&portrelay=1

Might make the transition really smooth, but since I don't even own...
  14. Re: Tormach PCNC 770 - Mach 3 - Windows 10

I believe that PP is basically the LinuxCNC distribution just customized. Meaning you would buy the PP disk and install that distribution. Perhaps somebody more knowledgeable on building a PP...
  15. Re: Tormach PCNC 770 - Mach 3 - Windows 10

PP and Mesa are exclusive to Linux. Windows 10 64 bit would not be an option.
  16. Re: Tormach PCNC 770 - Mach 3 - Windows 10

    I use a UC300eth-5lpt currently, and I had a ESS before that.

Both devices are great, but I probably prefer the UC300eth-5lpt. I'd occasionally get memory issues with the ESS, and I find the setup...

Re: FIXTURE PLATES FOR MINI MILLS

This one looks pretty good. Not sure what size mill you have, but this one would be great on a G0704 or similar.

Re: 7 Axis Swiss Mill-Turn (DIY)

The 10% tariff on aluminum began in March 2018 and the kickstarter ended May 18th, 2018. The 25% tariff on Chinese Aluminum started in May of 2019, while the tariffs on Mexican and Canadian on...
  19. Re: started my cnc conversion for Precision Matthews PM-25MV Mill

If you get your X axis adjusted correctly the weight of the servo/stepper and hardware is absolutely inconsequential. For example, I tighten my ways until the X stalls, but I do that with two 4"...
  20. Re: Stripped the column cap head screws on g0704

You are vastly over estimating the amount of force the heads of those bolts will have once drilled off. They won't even release in an instantaneous manner, they will deform and loosen before fully...
  21. Re: Is there any actual upside to gear-free DC spindle motors?

The difference is in limited duty and continuous duty. A DC motor or Servo will exhibit much higher limited duty starting torque, something like a 50% increase without the gear reduction. It will...
  22. Re: Stripped the column cap head screws on g0704

I actually watched the video before I posted. A quick search turned it up.
  23. Re: Stripped the column cap head screws on g0704

Those tramming blocks are legit. I need to make me some. Somebody should be selling those.
  24. Re: Stripped the column cap head screws on g0704

No. The head would be captured by the drill bit, but it wont release with any appreciable force. You've never drilled the head off a bolt, obviously, nothing wrong with that though. All of the...
  25. Re: Stripped the column cap head screws on g0704

The Imperial to metric method works. Assuming there is a slightly large Imperial size, just hammer it in and then turn.

Or you can grind a slightly large allen to a hexagonal taper, hammer it in,...
