  1. Re: Plug and Play 2.2kW Spindle --- Worth the upgrade?

In my opinion 150ipm @ 8000rpm is too high of a chip load:

    chip load = feed rate / (RPM * number of flues) = 150ipm / (8000rpm * 2flutes) = 0.009375in

Woodworking routers are going to benefit...
  2. Re: Plug and Play 2.2kW Spindle --- Worth the upgrade?

That is a 0.001in chip load [chip load = feed rate / (RPM * number of flues)]. I generally cut baltic birch (which I buy at woodworkers source) at around 0.004 - 0.005in chip load using .25" spiral...
  3. Re: Plug and Play 2.2kW Spindle --- Worth the upgrade?

You should be able to cut faster than 45IPM with a 2.25HP router. You might just need to calculate your speeds and feeds differently.

What RPM are you running the router at? How many flutes is...
  4. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

I've been diligent about turning off the router and disabling the motors before shutting down UCCNC software followed by shutting off power to the electronics.

I power on in the opposite order:

  5. Re: Cncrouterparts changed from V bearings to linear guides

Everything works one for one far as inputs and outputs go. The difference is the initial state of the relays. CRP didn't use a charge pump as they trust the ESS to behave properly on start up. The...

I use Dropbox to move the files. I have my laptop connected to the motion control over Ethernet. I enable the wifi to update my files then turn it back off.
  7. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

The power supplies in the CRP800 are all controlled by the same main power disconnect. I don't want to alter the internals other than the ESS -> UC300ETH and report my findings. In the future I...
  8. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

This makes sense why an enable pulse is needed for safe operation of motors and relays - there were no electronics between the computer and motors/relays.

As I mentioned in my previous post - this...
  9. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

You have to remember the purpose of this thread is to determine if the UCCNC/UC300ETH is an acceptable drop in solution for CRP Plug and Play electronics. I'm performing this test with my own time...

That makes sense how the industrial machines work. In this case the software can not be started until the electronics are powered and communicating over Ethernet due to licensing.

    I don't know...
  11. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

That is the exact behavior that I see also. For now I'm just turning off my router when I power down the electronics.

Edit - Here is a link to the bug report - forum.cncdrive.com ? View topic -...
  12. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

Now that I have all my parts I've been able to do more testing. I had to report a bug to the folks at UCCNC - PORT4/PIN6 can't be used for homing. It wasn't clear what the issue was, I'm assuming...
  13. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

Fusion 360 has properties listed in the screen before you post. If you create a custom post with a 'use_dust_collector' property you could turn it off before you generate gcode.
  14. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

I'll have to look back at the fusion360 post for Mach3 and CRP and see how the dust collector function is used. My intent is for this to be a drop in replacement for other CRP users.

    In the...
  15. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

Why wouldn't I want an automated machine to start and STOP everything?

This project is as much about learning as it is making things. I plan to tailor my own post for fusion360 as I know what my...
  16. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

All of my parts except the Z-Axis came in this week. I was able to put everything together and try UCCNC with UC300ETH. All of the limit switches work and I can move X and Y around reliably.

    I...

Re: Question on spoilboard attachement- Question

Make sure you are using the <file_name>.f3d file. Then at the top using the file menu (between the data panel and save button) select 'new design from file'.
  18. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

I noticed in the CNC Router Parts post that a function was added to control a dustcollector. I didn't see that in the UCCNC code. Is that something that needs to be added?
  19. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

I plan to use fusion360 for CAD/CAM. There are UCCNC, Mach3Mill, and CNC Router Parts (Mach3Mill) posts created. The UCCNC is a 'nc' extension while Mach3Mill is a 'tap' extension. The CRP parts...

Good to know. It doesn't look like CRP uses them in their PnP.
  21. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

I have answers for some of my questions:

This seems to be an error in the XML file and not used.

The 'PWM spindle' should be enabled if using a spindle connected to SP/THC. There is...
  22. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

    Even better!

I look forward to trying it for real. I just need my machine to arrive and build it!
  23. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

I have spent several hours going back and fourth between the two. It almost seems as if UCCNC was written to replace Mach 3 (that is just a personal opinion). The features from Mach 3 that I will...
  24. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

It was 25 in Mach 3. I must have thought it was wrong and changed it.

Is 100k the correct setting for UCCNC?
  25. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

Thank you for the reply Ger.

I'll be purchasing one of your screensets when my control software decision is final - after trying them both.
  26. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

I should have called it alternate. If it works out they will be interchangeable.

Having options is always a good thing. When there is market competition it drives down prices and increases...
  27. Re: Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

I'll include the profile from UCCNC if anyone wants to look over it or use it. The '.txt' extension will need to be removed. I'm not sure if the macro folder with the same name as the profile is...
  28. Swap Mach 3/ESS for UCCNC/UC300ETH-5LPT on CRP PRO with Plug and Play Electronics

I ordered and am waiting for the machine to arrive. In the mean time I've been preparing my control software. I've decided to try UCCNC as an alternative to Mach 3.

It was also mentioned here -...
