Nice job Viking!! Very impressive...

You may have a spindle drive problem (FR-SE, or FR-SF).
A malfunctioning spindle drive can prevent the Mazak from powering all the way up.
Probably the SF-CA card. On the card, the Mitsubishi chips DK-456 are usually the culprit. The top 6 of 12 chips that is.
I think the drive is your problem, thus, I would send the MRS2 drive to Mitsubishi Electric in Chicago, for evaluation and repair.
Good luck.
Mitsubishi Electric can rebuild your SF-PW, or sell you a new one.
Sometimes a bad SF-CA card will prohibit the SF-PW from powering up...
Good luck!
Does anybody have an equivalent part number (from Gates, Goodyear, etc.) for the 2 drive belts for the hi/low Fadals?
Trying to save some $$$ from the $90 per set...
Thanks, Greg
Some follow up on the EarthLCD monitor install:
Make sure your 12v dc power supply is AT LEAST 1.5 AMPS output! The power supply I bought was only .5 amps, and the monitor would not work! It...
Neal is a valuable resource here on the 'Zone for all of us Fadal users!
Thanks Neal for hanging around!!
My '96 3016 emits just a small amount of air out of the bottom of the spindle when the spindle is turning.
As said, this is an air curtain to keep contamination out of the bearings. The air is...
Thanks so much Dave for the help, and your pictures. I managed to get the bellevilles and drawbar floater (the part at the bottom held in place by the 2 balls) replaced.
Good thing too. About 10...
OK men,
After much fruitless searching, I need some help. It seems everybody has changed their belleville washers on their Fadal, but nobody has detailed the procedure.
So far, I have...
Hey Smitty,
The correct termonology for the adapter needed to use the EarchLCD monitor is a "BNC-female to RCA-male".
Per your photos, plug the Fadal monitor cable and adapter into the yellow...
Sounds like the coupling that connects the turret to the splined shaft has slipped. It is one of those 2-piece couplings with several bolts around the face, and only holds by friction when the two...
Hey guys,
After getting my FR-SE drive fixed, now I have a dead FR-SF drive. I have determined it is the hybrid drivers: DK 456. (The FR-SE drives use the DK434, but the newer FR-SF's use the DK...
The black "gearbox" is a hydraulic motor with the clamp/unclamp integral to the hydraulic cirucit. If the problem persists, it may be internal wear in your hydraulic motor.
Mazak wants like...
Get the QT15! This superb Mazak cnc lathe was built for nearly 2 decades (called the QT20 in later years) and is the job shop standard of the world.
Mazatrol is really the cat's meow. Once you...
Hey Cutmore,
How did you come about the DK434 hybrid??
Also, a question for you and Stepane. When you are checking the resistance, to get a reading of 2.17 (or 2.16), are you doing this with...
Hey Cutmore,
That's cool you were able to scope the SE-IO1 board and locate the bad firing circuits. I haven't bought a scope yet, but plan to soon, as I want to be able to scope these drives to...
Hey Cutmore,
Had any luck on getting the FR-SE back in operation?
Greg
What is the trick to checking the base IGBT's?? I have the manuals from Mitsubishi, and can't seem to get consistent readings when metering the transistors. The manuals list a chart of test points...
Hey gridley51,
Is the FR-SE Maintenance Manual No 1 you are referring to available from Mitsubishi's web site?
I can't recall reading anything about checking the transistors on the SE101 board...
Hey Cutmore,
Keep us posted on your repair of the FR-SE drive. It would be great if you can repair the board yourself! I have always wanted to know more about repairing this stuff.
If all...
I've got an FR-SE down myself. It is the power supply though. Sent in to Mitsubishi for a $400 repair. Deader than hell when I got it back. They replaced all the capacitors but the 2 largest...
Check your electrical manual. I think it is parameter R49. I forget which bit of this parameter you have to change to allow auto chuck open/close.
