Thanks rcheli.
I ended up ordering the Kelling 5056E/8070D drivers, a C25 smooth stepper I/O board, and a C6 spindle control board. Once I they arrive and I get a chance to play with them ill...
How long have you been using this setup for? Do you mind briefly explaining your setup, I see a lot of boards in your cabinet that I'm not sure i know what they are.
Side note, where did you get...
Hey guys,
Current Mill Configuration:
G0704
570oz X/Y Steppers
906oz Z Stepper
Warp 9 Ethernet smooth stepper
X/Y/Z proximity switches for homing
From the MX4660 manual:
"Emergency stop input (12V Sourcing). When activated, all four drive boards will be shutdown and the MX4660 will stop working. The red LED of each drive module will blink...
Sorry I should have been specific. The MX has a dedicated estop input. I believe it cuts power from the steppers but I'll need to confirm that.
Hey guys, hoping to pick your brains a bit.
I finally got my mill up and running and everything seemed to be going really well. Last night I hit the e-stop on my machine because the cutter was...
Where did you purchase the brushes you used on the brushes on your vac hood setup? Im thinking I could print something like that up for my mill.
Great to hear guys. I'll have to look into the cutters I would need, most likely a 1/4 or 1/2" ball and then a long shank/flute length router bit in 1/2" as well. Any suggestions on good places to...
Jim, what speeds/feeds are you using to cut the wood? Right now I have stock spindle bearings and motor, so I'm limited to around 2100rpm.
Hey guys, I have a couple ideas for projects I would love to do on my CNC converted G0704. One is a small woodworking project and I was curious who has done any working on their machines? I've seen...
I originally thought that the 3rd input of the mx4660 was outputted on the 26pin ribbon cable port 2. This was incorrect, inputs 1, 2 and 3 are all on the same cable and assigned output 10, 11, 12...
After reading through the manual again last night for the MX4660, I found the missing link. It looks like the pin/port configuration should be pins 10, 11, 12 (for x,y, z limit switches) all on port...
I managed to get everything wired up and the switches are functioning (red light comes on when metal comes close). I have activated homing within mach3 and setup the pins and ports as shown below. ...
OK thanks for the heads up. I am using the blue PNP version in the link I posted. I will see how they last, if they start to deteriorate i'll need to order something else.
Ok thanks. I'll order a power supply this week and try again! Thanks for help.
The MX4660 is suppose to have a 12vOUT that can be used to power these switches directly no? From the diagram I linked in the first post it shows the power supply as optional.
Yes, machine is operational without the switches. I tested the switches on the bench with a 12v car battery just to see if the LEDs would activate when a metal object came close (which they do).
...
I just double checked the invoice and they are PNP switches.
Hey guys, I'm in the middle of trying to setup home/limit switches on my G0704 mill. I'm using the following proximity switches:
...
Changed the native units to inches, re-calculated my steps per, and all is good now! Thanks again.
No, it says 1.0 currently. I just checked and the native units were not in inch. I originally set the machine up in metric because it has metric ballscrews not realizing everything else in Mach3...
If I program .5" it moves .5", it's just that the mach3 dro shows it moved double that. I'll check the settings you had mentioned and see if that works.
Hey guys, I have a small problem I am trying wrap my head around. I am in the middle of setting up a G0704 mill with CNC control, and I am getting a variation between what I program with G code...
I agree there is a large difference, but regardless, its still a huge pain in the ass and in my opinion shouldn't have been an issue in the first place.
I checked the ball screw and it was in...
Ill pull it out today and have a quick look on my welding bench. Its about as flat as I can get until I get it to work on Monday to check it on the granite surface table. I'm a bit disappointed that...
Hey guys, I was hoping I could get your opinion on a few small issues I am having before I carry on with the conversion. I managed to get the controller and mach3 to play nice and got some movement...
Great thanks!! The hose guards are a nice touch, I really like it. Do you happen to know what the thread size is for the ball nuts?
From your pictures, it looks like the the hose connects to...
Great thanks, looks like you are using 1/8 microstepping? Any reason not to go more, right now i have mine setup for 1/16. Everything else I have setup the same, the only difference I see is that...
Well, I've been playing with this for a few hours tonight, again without any success. I found a few issues that I have corrected, but something still isn't correct. Here is what I've changed and...
