Since nobody seems to speak up, I'll try and help with what little I know.
I am not an ABS moulder, I do Poly-carbonate & PVC, I believe rule of thumb is the minimum sheet moulding area should be...
is that 12 inches? how tall is your mould?
what is the plastic you are using
I would very much doubt that the 240v machine would draw twice the current.
I would think its still about 10 amps as the 120v.
I am not sure what it is either.
I know my friends dry the sheets in ovens for quite some time, before forming, are you drying your sheets?
sand the paint off
What is the plastic you are using?
The red cap or bung on the top of your vac pump is that vented to the air if not that should not be in that hole as I suspect that is a vac vent hole.
As Troyo says that pump will do fine for that...
Usually you will find the cover film that sticks the most is the one to remove and does not like being formed on the lexan.
\You are lucky you have a choice we only have two and both are so so.
You get that film on both sides of the PC (lexan) when you buy it.
Only one side with the cover film can be formed on the lexan usually the coloured or opaque film, the clear film is usually the...
I would fill the tiger stuff with more bog or better still a polyester resin thickened with talc and trowel on.
The resin talc mix will sand down to a very smooth surface.
As you are flocking the...
Sorry not much help on this one.
I assume you are using PETG.
Yes over heating will cause bad webbing, as for the right temperature, it's all trial and error.
Depth of sag is a good way of...
If I may answer.
It is the base under the shape that is being formed.
If that is not an option I have driled several holes around the base where the webs are and applied the vacuum before the...
Please keep us informed of your progress as I would love to know how you get rid of the webbing (excess material) in the corners
I find it hard to see your probs from the pics, I assume you only have vac holes around the edges.
I think from what I can understand from your description that you are getting air trapped in the...
Can I ask as to why you have used polycarbonate?
Acrylics form much easier.
Are you sure your competitor is using polycarbonate.
Polycarbs can be difficult to form and hold a good shape.
What do you call a standoff.
I thought webbing was caused by too much material and was fixed by reducing the size of the plastic sheet that is being formed.
Scott what are drywall screens.
and where does one buy them.
I have worked out what they are in fact I have some 10" disks but not called by that name.
I am sure the sheets are not available her...
Hi Scott,
thanks for the speedy reply.
Yes loved the V8's at Bahrain.
My current project (1/24th slot car body's) is making the latest Holden and Ford cars as raced at Bahrain.
Any ideas how I...
I am trying to vac form Lexan .007" and .020" thick with limited success.
I keep hearing about wave length, what does this have to do with the type of plastic one forms?
I am using 22ga nichrome...
Thank you Scott.
That is the type of info I am looking for.
Is there a particular make of vac pump you would suggest.
When you say the pump is stalled I assume that is when the tank is up to vac?...
Thanks Geof for the speedy reply.
I would like to do a pull about every minute .
I have scrolled these and other threads for information on sizing a pump I would require for my project without success.
I would like to know what size pump I will need to form .030" polycarbonate...
Thanks again for your input.
Where and how can I contact Polytek, I take it they sell the BCC product?
Gill A
Thank you kayaker,
As the site does not have prices can you tell what price they charge.
I have been to the BCC site are there are some very interesting products, which casting resin do you use?
Gill A
I have no idea the answer to your question, but I am of the opinion that you only need holes under the shape you are forming.
I can not see why there is a need to put holes outside the shape.
I am very interested to hear how you get on with this project.
I would like to know what size sheet of plastic does one use for these bodies.
As for altering your mould I would use gelcoat heavily...
I am looking to purchase a roll of .010" lexan gloss/gloss for vacuum forming.
Does anybody know from where and what type of lexan I should use?
I am bewildered as to why you want a smooth platen.
Can you tell us why?
I use MDF without any coating, it works fine.
