Thanks Gerry,
I'm going to look for any slop in the system like you described first, then try to reduce how much is cut for each pass [I think that I saw this in the VcarvePro "Tool"...
Here are a few pictures of the cut...

So - after a very long delay, I've finally finished my JGRO router, and have made some wood chips with some very good results.
I'm using:
* HobbyCnc Pro board with their 305 oz-in steppers
...
Good luck with your board ELseed.
I look forward to hearing of your success!
The old Dell computer that I had set up for the controller crashed and burned (OK - it won't boot anymore...) over...
Hi Elseed,
I've recently gotten back to my JGRO build, and This time I'm commited to
finishing it! Base and gantry built & painted, bearings and Z axis not complete.
I'm using the HobbyCnc...
MrWild -
Any tips or config files for the JGRO? I have yet to set up my HobbyCnc board
(with the 305 steppers).
I've been dragging my feet on this also...
Thanks
Hi BB,
Very nice build... keep the updates coming. An alternative to modifying the mount for the laminate trimmer might be to just add another sacrificial board to the base - it might keep things...
Kylemp,
Could you please explain this in a little more detail - I'm about the assemble these parts very soon...
It's not clear to me as I look at the prints why you can't use a lot of the...
Hi Tony,
Thanks for the input - I'll look through that link.
I'm thinking that the difference in using the pipes has more to do with the spacers than it does with the 1/32" difference in offset...
Build Update:
I'm in the last stages of my JGRO assembly, and have a question about the X/Y/Z axis linear bearings made from aluminum angle.
Although the plans call for 1" gas pipe only for the...
Hi Urb,
I tried sanding/polishing my guide rails this weekend by turning down a few conical sections from some scrap wood, then setting up the pipe section between these on my Shopsmith - but I...
Thanks - I'll take a look at Dave's log tonight...
Thanks SilentReaper - but why isn't the lead screw termination the same as in assembly #7? In any case, I'm using 1/2 -10 ACME single start, and I was thinking of just double nutting the leadscrew...
Somewhere on the Zone, I've seen pictures and instructions from someone that made a homemade tap from 1/2 inch ACME threaded rod. This tap was then used to thread the backlash nut & nut tensioner in...
OK - I think that I've gone over the plans a few times looking for it, but where does detail # 29 the small spacer made from pipe go in the assembly?
Thanks
Don
Hi Dave,
Thanks for the Acme nut info.
What did you use for your leadscrew bearings? The plans call out 5 flanged bearings, but I see that Joe200 has used 1/2 inch bearings similar to the skate...
Dave,
Just so I understand, you double nut between the coupler and the flange bearing, and also outside the "box" at the free end. Three axis times 4 nuts each = 12. So you don't have any nuts...
Dave, I think that you're talking me into using wood screws... Did you use the dowel pins? If so did you use metal ones, or wooden "splines" that you also glued?
Because I'll be using the Acme 1/2...
Ugggh - sounds painful :) !!!
I've been reading that most builders don't glue all of their joints because they
sometimes have to take it apart. Is this a necessity, or could I really just screw...
Can't help you with your new setup - I'll be looking for that picture also.
But I'm curious - what type of "serious problem" are you having with your current leadscrew - rust ??
Don
The JGRO design calls for threads tapped in the MDF for both 1/4-20, and for #10 machine screws.
I plan on ordering a thread forming tap on line for the 1/4-20, but do I really
need to tap the #10...
Arghhh,
It seems that the domain that the link points to is no longer valid, and is parked.
Anyone still have the download... Haytay ???
Thanks,
Don
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the link - I Spent some time looking for the free version that they now call ProgeCad Smart!. They have a writeup from January 2007 saying that it will be released soon, but...
OK Gerry,
You probably knew I'd ask the next question as soon as you hit "Submit Reply" ...
So - what are your candidates for "a simple 2D CAD program".
Don
Hi Graham,
Thanks for the pointer to Moi - I had run across this link before, but the examples/writeup is very sparse. I was hoping for more documentation - of any kind - on the site, but found...
Gerry,
I'm going to take a serious look at Silo and Moi for the 3D modeling, and am now thinking that Alibre Express might be a good place to start for the Cad work. There must be a thread on the...
From my earlier post, these are the things I'm after (for now...):
Besides all of the 2.5D routing, there are 2 things that I'd like to use the CNC machine for:
1) Start with a 2D line pattern,...
Gerry,
Thanks for the response - your insights are much appreciated...
As for the CAD SW, any suggestions for a reasonably priced solution that I won't grow out of for a while? I've mentioned in...
OK - So now I'm lost...
You might have seen from other threads, that I've started building a JGRO router.
From the months of reading the CncZone forums, I had pretty much decided to start out...
