    Re: Digitizing and usability

Dave, welcome to the frustrating world of reverse engineering.

I've tried digitizing a couple of items with my Centroid-control mill and that process works OK (but it is slow). Creating a good...

    Re: Slow file access

Yes, it has been rebooted several times, I don't leave the machine up and running after using it as it doesn't get used very frequently.

    Re: Slow file access

There is no floppy drive or cd drive in the PC, only USB ports off the motherboard (back panel) and the flash drive that holds the Linux/Centroid files in a small bay that would have been for a 3.5"...

    Re: Slow file access

It is not networked, it is a stand alone machine with a solid state main drive and some USB ports in the PC. There is no floppy drive.

    Re: Slow file access

It isn't just the USB, when I go into file ops bringing up the first directory display on the system drive is just as slow. Often I'll only have 5-6 files on whatever USB drive I grab to transfer...

    Slow file access

My mill is using Linux v2.30 and CNC10, from a report file:

    CNC10CONV v. 2.32 - Centroid configuration file utility
    CNC10 Uniconsole-2 v. 2.32 setup file for CPU7

    There's a solid state drive....

    Re: Tree325 Retrofit Started

I can't help you with your controller/interface issues as I used Centroid DC3IO on my Tree 325 and 425 retrofits, but I'll make a couple of comments on the machines. I looked at the miles of wiring...

Re: Parking with "jog to home" machines

G53 does what I was looking for, so thanks very much for pointing that out! It is Sharpied on the side of the console so I won't forget.

I'll have to read up on the G28 stuff and see what I can...

Re: Parking with "jog to home" machines

Thanks, I'll look at G53. I have to admit that I'm not very conversant with the fine details of G/M codes, so when I read things in the Centroid manual they do not always make much sense to me. ...

Parking with "jog to home" machines

I've got Linux CNC10 on my Tree 425. This is a "jog to home at startup" machine, so Y is usually just short of the minus limit switch, Z similarly at the plus switch, and X is in the middle of the...

Re: I think I have an encoder wiring issue

Keith, in TB045 (rev1) it says that the reciprocal of the change to accel time should be applied to the Ka number. Is that applicable to my machine? That document seems to be for an earlier version...

Re: I think I have an encoder wiring issue

FWIW, tonight finished the great CNC rotab commissioning project. :)

All the hardware stuff is done -- cover plates, mounting the Amphenol connector, the clamp is cleaned up/unstuck from sitting...

Re: I think I have an encoder wiring issue

Keith, as a retired hobbyist machinist/racer I'm hoping that once I get a full 4 axis mill going I'll never need to do another mill conversion!

I have to admit that a small CNC lathe sounds...

Re: I think I have an encoder wiring issue

    Thanks for the info!

I don't think my camera has a wide enough lens to get a shot inside the (now rather messy) cabinet since the mill is backed into a corner with just enough room to open the...

Re: I think I have an encoder wiring issue

It appears that swapping the motor cables at the drive fixed it.

Mr. Murphy always finds a visit to my garage to be productive, and with his help I of course hooked up the two motor wires (which...

Re: I think I have an encoder wiring issue

I'll add that while the +/- jog buttons/MPG always increment in the same direction, manually turning the motor shaft does have the DRO reading go up and down.

I think I have an encoder wiring issue

I've got CNC10 LInux with a DC3IO. The XYZ axes are fine.

I'm in the process of hooking up a 4th axis with the DC Single add-on drive after having the 4th axis stuff "resting" for a long time. I...
  21. Re: ALIBRE / GEOMAGIC What are your thoughts about Support and Maintenance

Steve, I've put Centroid/Ajax controls on both a 325 and my current 425. The 325 ended up with a CT Emerson similar to what Bill used, and I'm still using the OEM Yaskawa G5 VFD on the 425.

Dave, I was worried because the 425 is taller than the 325, but it ended up being a breeze.

The minimum height on a 325 is 75". The 425 was, IIRC, 81.5". This is after removing the cover,...
