Hey OLG,
Good stuff! Wish I had seen it before. I do a lot of stuff like this myself, and it takes a lot to put it out there.
Can't imagine what possessed you to start with a grandfather...

Hey OLG,

Very inspiring stuff. Nice work.
Thanks for sharing
I have a GOT clock I'm finishing now that has the Stark, Baratheon, Greyjoy, and Targaryen sigils inlaid in brass and aluminum. Wish you would have posted sooner. Would have saved a lot of work. :)...
I'm a big fan of Vectric products. I use Cut2D a LOT. I used the trial version of Photo VCarve for a while before I tried MeshCam. I absolutely love MeshCam and wouldn't consider anything else for...
The compliment is very much appreciated.
Thank you.
Yes, for most of the project I used Cut2D (I LOVE Cut2D!).
For the lithophanes and the 2.5d part of the Duvtail (the sides), I used MeshCam (I also love MeshCam).
Thanks RJAZE.
That is as close as I was able to get to a true dovetail. I like to call it a Duvtail(TM). :)
I'm sure it's been done before. Sort of a hybrid of a dovetail and a box joint.
The clock is 6"Hx9"Wx3"D.
The lights I used for this one are white cold cathode lights that I got from eBay. I don't really recommend them though. They require that big blue driver unit, and also...
Thanks John
This is a Mother's Day gift I made for my wife. I am not much of a woodworker, so this sort of ended up being an exercise in surfacing, inlay, and joints for the CNC. Finishing has also historically...
The point is this: We come to this site not only to learn about machining, but also where to get things, or who to hire to do things we don't have the ability or time to do. In this case, we're...
What size are you looking for?
Toothandnail, would you please let us know how this gets resolved? I am interested to see if you get good parts, if you ever receive any at all. Since he basically taunted you on this thread (pure...
Those are really good! Thank you for sharing.
In the project tab you can see all the chains. If you highlight one, you will see what part of the picture it affects. You can move the chains into any order you like. It can be a bit time-consuming,...
Yes, that works. I guess I just got to used to doing it the other way.
Thank you for setting me straight w/MC5.
Chris
Robert,
Thank you for your response.
I'm probably wrong, but one of the benefits of the move command is letting me easily set the top of the part to zero. I don't know how else to do this.

(Ripped from my post to the GRZ forum months ago, no help)
Hello,
(MC5, build21. Windows 7, 64-bit)
I mostly use MC (a LOT) for lithophanes and 2.5d carvings, and MC5 certainly seems faster...
Have you tried messing with the max depth per cut setting in your tool definition?
Hi,
You might also consider Meshcam. It works really well for lithos and is good for making parts as well. I posted some of my lithos in the grz software forum if you would like to see some...
[QUOTE=jm82792;1129105] Gimp is nice to feed Inkscapes autotracer filtered images to enable a better DXF. Inkscape's Gcode tools are neat, the post processor is also cool.
Have you tried using...
Stupid question:
Can't you just glue it to a piece of wood with a piece of paper in between?
That's what I do with aluminum if I don't want something I cut to jump out.
Hi,
I'm not sure why nobody has replied yet, but I'll bite.
I am currently using a DeWalt DWP611. I love it. So far I have cut many types of woods, acrylic, foam and aluminum. It has been...
I use my fixed-gantry CNC router as an overhead manual router all the time. Works quite well, and the dust-collection already built in is a plus.
Haven't used it for cross-cutting, but I was...
No.
A 5-phase motor is very different from a uni/bipolar motor. You need a 5-phase driver. As bipolar motors have pretty much matched their performance, 5-phase steppers/drivers have become...
Yes.
Go get Inkscape or HyCad. They're free.
Thanks Lou.
If you're asking about types of wood, the light box is Hawaiian Koa and Curly Maple. The whole wood-finishing thing is still a challenge for me. Getting a little better with each...
Forum's been dead for a while. Time to post some more lithos to show the awesomeness of MeshCam.....
I posted a small gallery of engravings in the LazyCam forums if you want to see some others.
My only real advice is, don't go too deep. As previously mentioned, you probably want to reverse the...
