Re: Mach 3, g28 safe travels height

I don't use Mach3 so would be better of staying out of this, sorry. If G28 doesn't raise the spindle something is off in the machine absolute reference positions.
    My preference would be stripping...

  4. Re: Machine Control Besides Mach and LinuxCNC with stand alone controller.

No alphanumeric keyboard means no MDI ?
No alphanumeric keyboard means clunky g-code edits ?
That little LCD screen won't display a tool path with the rotates and zooms and other niceties that come...

    I see now it's a 6040 so no tool changer :)
Are you using a tool setter or do you measure by touching each tool to the top of the stock ?

Wrap in code tags ? It's in the 'advanced' post options. There's probably other ways as well.

Re: How Do I Draw WONKY GEARS!!!

Wow, 1/3 the cost and works with shapes that may not be possible in Gearotic. Simple to use as well judging by examples on YouTube.
I use Gearotic to experiment with clocks, I hope Gearotics...

Re: How Do I Draw WONKY GEARS!!!

Gearotic for $120 does non circular gears and much more.

I have the trial version but haven't been willing to part with the cash, no license no g-code.
Sorry, I'm not aware of cheaper or free...
  9. Re: Moving table (fixed gantry) with two ballscrew

My understanding is dual screws are used on a moving gantry to reduce the possiblity of racking.
With the rails you're using and a central screw --racking of the moving table doesn't look likely...

Re: program to convert to G code

Photos can be vectorized (dxf or svg) lots of ways including some online options. I'm not aware of any that guarantee precise dimensions. For artsy stuff I mostly use inkscape and F-engrave because...
  11. Re: Help in interpreting results of Rollie's Dad method for aligning spindle on my Mi

    Yes.
    -0.045 + 0.045 = 0
Rollie's Dad Method will check alignment even if the spindle has some run-out or the test rod is less than perfectly straight. Use a rod with consistent diameter (no...

    Re: Surface probing

I use G-Code Ripper, sometimes by itself and sometimes importing data from the probe routine in the linuxcnc sample directory.
Autoleveller works much the same I believe.

They should able to run stand-alone in Windows (I haven't tested them in Windows personally)

    Re: Fusion 360 subscription changes

Yes, free for start-ups after applying and getting accepted. At least that's how I read it:

    Re: Fusion 360 subscription changes

I think you're referring to my post in another thread.

From$1000/yr to $100,000/yr start-up license is still available (at Autodesk's discretion)
To qualify for a free license revenue must be...

Re: how to get started with CNC router?

Does the Fusion360 post G53 or G28 near the top of the code ?
On most machines G53 Z0 (for example) is a safe move but there are exceptions depending on how the machine has been set-up.

Re: David A's New 2x3 Bench Top CNC

Wow, sometimes it's hard to get a sense of scale in a photo.
To put that in perspective the AC bearings I bought for a 'someday' driven nut weigh 7.4 oz each. Most of that weight wouldn't be in...

    Re: What now? (g-code generation/creation)

Last time I tried a 4 axis tool path with Fusion 360 I learned it's 3 axis +1, meaning 3 axis plus indexing. I was hoping for 4 axis simultaneous.
That leads to the suspicion 5 axis is 3axis +2...

Re: DIY CNC machine on the cheap!

Is black pipe commonly available in your area ? It's used for things like sprinkler systems and natural gas.
It's much stiffer than curtain rod and has no coating to flake.
