I have been using Oramask 813 for years, and has never let me down.
Thanks, I was wondering how the Slat Wall would work. Guess I'll just keep using the MDF. Seems to work alright, as I was just looking for a better way.The Slat Wall and inserts were kinda pricey...
What do you use for your CNC bed? Until now I have just been using MDF. Now I'm looking at SlatWall with the aluminum inserts. Just curious what is the best thing to use.
Mine is the same router. You would think they would upgrade that bearing, because they have to be getting some complaints about that. Does it need a bigger or just a better bearing on the low end? If...
Still working on my machine. Just bought a new Bosch 2 1/4 horse router and am working on a new router mount. I'm making that out billet aluminum. I'll post some pics when I get it done.
That's my next project, a dust shoe or at least strap a dust vac hose to the side of the router. I'll have to give the CRC 3-36 a try.
Doesn't your screws collect alot of saw dust using oil? What I have been using is a dry bicycle lubricant. Seems to work pretty good. I might try some of my nail gun oil to see if it's better.
Very nice work! What did you use for the end plates on you gantry?
I checked the voltage on my HobbyCNC board this morning and it was 30 DCV. This was measured at the TB6 terminal. I installed a damper on the X and got her running 100 ipm nice and smooth. As far as...
Well I've got more than enough computer. Do you mean the voltage on each axis? Or the voltage at the main terminal? If so I'll have to check. The transformer I believe is 24 volts. I won't be able to...
I tried the 1/8 microstepping, and it didn't seem to like it. So, I have it back to 1/4 with 65 on the Velocity and 10 on the Acceleration and seems to like that the best. So far no stalling when I...
Thanks to you and Gerry, I think I'm on the right track now. You know when this thing was working right, I just kind took it for granted. When it started messing up I said a few things I can't...
Yes, I built mine to specs. The one thing I did was to use 6/4 poplar for the gantry. I jointed it, thickness planed it and cut the groove in the center with a dado. I never have been real...
Man, I wouldn't know how to act with speeds like that. I've always carved at 35 ipm or slower
I'd like to see some pics of your machine. Maybe I could get some ideas from you on what upgrades I...
Went out last night and changed the Accel. The stepper did seem to run alot smoother and longer without stalling. But just when I was starting to feel good about it , it started to stall on me again....
Thanks Gerry, did not know that. So the velocity is what dictates how fast your axis moves? I thought it was the other way around. I learned something new again. So what could I run the velocity at ? ...
I am running the HobbyCNC pro 4 -axis pro board, with 305oz-unipolar rating, 4.2v, 3A, 200 S/R, 3.2mH, Size #23, Dual Shaft, stepper motors. My screws are dual 1/2”, 8 /2-start on the X, single...
I have been using VCarve Pro 6.5 and absolutely love it. I couldn't imagine doing my sign carving without it. When I first bought it, I thought it was very expensive, but soon found out it was worth...
Thank's Jubo, This machine has served me well. It's paid for itself many times over and given me lots of enjoyment.
I use OraMask 813. I buy it from OraMASK 813 Stencil Film - 24 inch x 50 yds - Sign Supplies and Equipment. Been using it for years and works great.

I use VCarve Pro and love it. I can't imagine carving signs without it. That is a great idea! I'll have to give that a try.

Sure does, thanks for the help!

Does anyone know how hard it is to hook-up an E-stop on a Hobby CNC 4-axis pro board? I'm using Mach3.
Thanks Mike
Nice job, I built the same machine and am real happy with it. Been carving signs for over a year with it now and still works great. I went with the 4 axis kit and am using 2 steppers on the x axis to...
If I would knock $100.00 off that price, that would only work out to be only about $.30 per square inch. When I was free handing them I was charging $.35. That was for a standard 5 1/2" x 24" with 2...
Zool, what type of signs do you make? I mostly do just vcarved with black letters. Nothing real fancy, but want get into painted. That's why I asking about the masking film. I just the other day gave...
Sounds like the slickest way to do it for sure! As for my time, considering what it cost in time and money to build the machine. How much research it took just to get where I am now. The cost of the...
When you say dry rolling method, do you use a very short nap roller with most of the paint rolled out before you apply?
Thanks Mike
Has anyone ever tried applying stencil paper to the wood before carving? I thought read somewhere about someone who used this technique. I would think you would still have the bleed problem, so you...
Must have been bad G-code. I bought the VCarve Pro 6, did some large letters profiled inside, and the Z stayed steady. All is good now.Thank's for all the help everyone, very much appreciated ...
