Re: DeskCNC - Should I Deep Six it?

I have the DeskCNC on a DynaMyte 2000 mill and it runs very well. Never a problem. I don't know the generation of the card set but it drives the three axes very well. In comparison, I have a FlashCut...

Re: Taig cnc mill capabilities ?

I have a heavily modified TAIG and it will not approach 0.0001" resolution or accuracy. I think a thousandth (0.001") is pushing it with the TAIG. You need much more of a machine than that to meet...

    Microstepping, is it safe?

According to Micromo, maybe not. The torque falls off rapidly as one increases the number of microsteps.

  5. Re: Mini desktop CNC mill to engrave custom center caps.

To correct a few items from awerby's post.

Current FlashCut hardware is USB connected to the computer, not a parallel port and it processes the pulses, not the computer. I doubt if you could get...
  6. Re: Mini desktop CNC mill to engrave custom center caps.

The TAIG is direct drive if you mean the axis. If you mean the spindle, the CNC version (if you buy it from their CNC company) has a bigger and better motor. Still belt drive though and about 10,000...
  7. Re: Mini desktop CNC mill to engrave custom center caps.

I have a TAIG mill that I've had to heavily modify to prevent the Z-Axis from going out of plumb.

If I had the choice, I'd go for the small Little Machine Shop CNC mill. I've seen it in operation...
  8. Re: Is it possible to use old Allibre version along new Geomagic ?

Alibre, in times past, would allow a user to upgrade a specific capability. I upgraded, among other tools, to sheet modeling. Call them and ask them. It is just a subtle change in the license string...

Ah, then the next question is whether anyone has modeled the TAIG mill in MCAD. This would make it much faster to be able to design a new set of leadscrews and anti-backlash nuts. From what I can see...

Turcite is what they use on machine tool slides. There is also a 2-part expoxy-like product called moglich which can be cast directly onto machine parts for things like slides and drive nuts.

FlashCut Compact Controller and V4 software

Just received these products and am attempting to revive Robert Washburn's old TAIG CNC mill.

  21. Does Flashcut 3 support serial connections to their hardware?

    I inherited a TAIG/Flashcut/BobCAD system.

I have both FC 2.1 & 3. I haven't gotten all the hardware hooked up yet but it appears that FC 3 may not support the serial connection to the controller....

The FEA is going away because AutoCAD bought them. I think 12-1-2010 is the last time you can get a license through Alibre.
