Re: Router guy needs a lathe. Recommend please.

To clarify; are you looking for a CNC lathe, a plane old metal turning lathe to be converted to CNC or a really plane Jane wood lathe?

Re: Is this possible? Rack and Pinion Quick Release

I think you'll find that many control OS's will have an MDI tab (manual data input). This allows for quickly writing simple G code moves at the machine and will impart the inherent accuracy of the...

Re: 4th Axis Rotary Accuracy - Problems

I must be missing something here; by your calculation 360 degree rotation equals 12,000 steps (a whole number, micro steps included). That breaks down to 1 degree equals 33.3333333 micro steps (which...

Re: My CNC Router Build Adventure

    Jayne,
For what its worth, I'm also Mac based. However, to run the control OS that I chose (Mach4), I had to go to a Windows platform. Also, prior work requirements meant that Windows was what I had...

    Re: Not equal corners radius

What we're talking about here is using the tools effectively that are available to us. The more versatile CAD/CAM software packages will offer a variety of options for completing a certain task, but...

    Re: Not equal corners radius

That's the down side of G61; it stops at the end of every vector until it gets removed. It is a modal call. You need a G64 after your hard corner stops to cancel it out where you don't want it.

    Re: Not equal corners radius

Some industrial machines will have a "feature" in the control thats looks ahead and anticipates a corner and will insert a radius move around the corner to smooth the transition from one vector to...
  8. Re: Any advice on a 6m x 2m CNC Plasma / Router build

I built from a basic kit (Avid Pro 4 x 2, for chair work), but modified much of it to accommodate specific functions. Got backed into a corner along the way and ended up building my own control. My...

Re: Strange harmonic machining pattern pattern

I would also look at your 3d model. How "tight" are your surfaces? You haven't said what software you use. Is the tool path written from the client's file? Sometimes just "cleaning up" the model...
  10. Re: Any advice on a 6m x 2m CNC Plasma / Router build

What value do you place on your personal time? If your business is flourishing, time may be at a premium. Does the router need the same capacity? To combine the 2 functions within the same machine...

Re: 4th Axis Rotary Accuracy - Problems

You may also want to do the math (2999 or 3000 steps equals how many degrees of rotation) to see if there is a correlation to your error.

Re: 4th Axis Rotary Accuracy - Problems

Not too knowledgeable about 4th axis indexers, but; I presume a 360 rotation of your indexer equals a whole number of of steps (I also presume your motor drive has an encoder?)? Does a 90 degree...

I believe your pump is oil lubricated? If its in good running condition, it should pull close to 29" HG intake capped. CFM is another factor, particularly if your system is leaky. If your going to...

Looks like you're cutting pine? Try a sharp new cutter and cut something like hard maple to see if that makes a difference. Pine can be difficult to cut cleanly.

    Re: Clearpath Servo Sizing

I'll second Richmaple's sentiments. I also have Clearpaths on my Avid based machine (4824 Pro). Had to make my own control (ESS/MB3/Mach4) and it was a bit of a task. I'm a woodworker and my CNC was...

Re: My models, and models for download.

I'm curious; aside from painting, how much work is done after CNC? I presume there is a fair amount of sanding? How about chasing surfaces and detail with carving tools?

    Nice work, by the way!
