Re: Rack and pinion spring wear

There is no benefit to mounting that way, springs wear out from compression/decompression cycles not being held compressed. It's likely you will wear out several sets of pinion gears before you lose...

Re: Avid CNC -> Any frame only buyers?

I will say that while you can certainly save money by rolling your own electronics, the Avid plug and play setups are a pretty good deal for what they are, I know I wouldn't willingly put one of...

Re: Avid CNC -> Any frame only buyers?

I bought just he mechanicals at the end of 2019 to pair with a centroid acorn and DMM servos and couldn't be happier. The mechanicals are as far as I can find the best do it yourself set up out...

Re: jerky motion on y axis

I can't remember which way they set it up stcok, is Y the axis with one motor or 2. If its the one with 2, improper gantry squaring can cause jerkiness, as can an issue with one of you...

    Re: skate bearing dust problems??

crp sells, or did sell a kit that adds brushes to either side of the bearing carriers. I use them on my router, still have to clean the rails with a brass brush occasionally but no where near like...

Re: Cutting aluminum - Share feeds and speeds

SFM is more of a range than a hard target, the 280 you have there from the daycounter site would be at the lower end of the range for uncoated HSS tooling. With the upper range being around 500sfm....

Re: Cutting aluminum - Share feeds and speeds

Feeds and speeds depend HIGHLY on the tool itself. What material the tool is made of, and coatings it may have, cutting edge geometry, and the number of flutes all play a major role.

Re: Dmm Dyn4 pmdx126 ess control build

The cable for their bob looks like an off the shelf db25 cable. The one for the acorn is custom made with only the wires needed and a resistor on the 5v power inputs to allow you to connect them to...
  9. Re: Help with troubleshooting motor/driver issue

I mostly ruled out mechanical because with the slave motor disconnected it moved smoothly, and only happened randomly. Also it wasn't something that was adding up over time, it was a sudden error....
  10. Help with troubleshooting motor/driver issue

I have a standard model CRP thats 24x24 running the DIY nema 23 setup, so gecko 540 and a ESS. Over the last week, or about 4 hours of actual use I have had one of the slave axes malfunction...
  11. Re: Ideas for guards for proximity/limit sensors on CNCRP Pro

If you are talking about hitting it with the machine axis, that's what the rubber bumpers are for, the machine should hit those and stop before it impacts the sensor.
  12. Re: Upgrade from NEMA23 Plug and Play to NEMA 34?

You would need, obviously, the NEMA 34 motors, as well as the higher current drivers, cables and connectors and a second 600W power supply. It looks like the bridge board, BoB and most of the other...

Re: Loud Pop on Z Axis Movement

You definitely had them too tight then, the axes should glide smoothly and easily, if you tightened them enough to make it so your z wasn't falling when powered off they were way too tight.

Hey guys, I am working on the design for a vacuum fixture for holding .0625 canvas reinforced phenolic that I cut a couple of different parts out of. Just straight profiling, I currently cut these...
  16. (Potential) Problem with one of my rack and pinion drives

First off a couple of questions

    1. I sit possible that having the belt on the drive too tight could cause the motor to stall and lose steps?

    2. If so, is it possible that the belt could have...
  17. Poll: Re: Latest Design CRP PRO4896 Build log Awesomeness!!

As for which axis is X and which is Y it all depends on how you have the machine setup in your shop, the xml file they provide has it set one way, but there are a number of different combinations...
  18. Poll: Re: Latest Design CRP PRO4896 Build log Awesomeness!!

Flat washers should only ever be used if there is a specific need for them, something like a slotted bearing surface or if the bearing surface is made of something soft like plastic, or galls easily...

    Re: PRO CNC 2016 Revision

Closed loop motors would be nice, I have realized that I actually could use more motor than the nema 23s. Didn't think I would when I bought the machine, and have been really eyeing those leadshine...
  22. Re: Had an accident today, not sure if it was something I did

  23. Re: Had an accident today, not sure if it was something I did

I have since ran that same program about a dozen times with no issues, was definitely some sort of glitch in mach3. Given the shape of the cut I can't see it being g-code out of order as there are no...
