OK...thanks for that.
Another query....
Linear scale supplier quotes output as "TTL square /wave EIA-442" so I imagine if I only need the TTL signal, just use A and B out?

Just completed building and testing electronics for the Yuri Touch Dro system.
Originally thought about using rotary encoders with 600 ppm operated by wire but when thinking more about it,...
Makes more sense to build small gear pump. It will do the same job and much easier to make.
These engines are a bit different to the usual 4 stroke.
To begin with, they have linkages attached to the main crank which allow the four cycles of the 4 stroke to be completed in one revolution...
Just wondering if you have you ever built an engine, any size at all??
Found the pics of the grinder.
Have started to build a "parallel tracking" grinder to do vintage motorcycle cams. More acccurate approach for these.
Also, these couple of sites should help.
...
You can machine most of the material away with a milling machine and then "round-off" with a hand file.
I made a machine to grind cams but some will say "it'll never work" and go into vast...
Do not know if it has been covered before, 60 odd pages is quite a bit of reading, however, in the first postings, I see a pic of a hall switch.
Many instances it is a good idea to fit a bypass...
Some of the first drone aircraft used 250cc engines and they were R/C.
Yes, agree.
To be fair though, he did not say ringed, just he never encounted a tapered bore.
In R/C 2 stroke engines it is a well known fact that the bore is tapered towards the top. So much so, that say a K&B front exhaust rear induction marine engine for example, will "seize" when cold...
Theory is fine up to a point, wheras experience is an invaluable tool.
I'd be inclined to advise you to go and build something simple first, maybe a little steam engine.
See first hand just...
I use 4140 round bar also, and mill flat to maybe 13mm depending on size required.
Big job but flat bar is not available here. I can see your point with the round bar but as you said, many things to...
These Challenger engines sound "really great"...tempted to build one myself after the success of the 25cc four cylinder I designed and built.
Just curious why you would want to change the...
Just a thought for anyone wanting to go a slightly different route. This is a PLC program that runs on an old PC. I used it to build a crankshaft grinder for miniature engines and used optical...
Yes, I am well aware of what you are trying to achieve. I do know what a #6 size refers to also. The reality is that some things, sparkplugs included have limitations on the amount of "scaling" they...
Why would you bother when you can get these for about $10 each in quantity. Work well too.
DL Engines and Hobby Australia - Spark Plug 1/4-32 (Fits glow plug)
Video here...........
Atkinson.mp4 - YouTube
Don't know how to post video like you did...doesn't seem to be any instruction on how to do anywhere
Nice job...runs sweet.
Built one here myself, much the same only did castings. My flywheel is not quite as big diameter as it was all I had at the time and so low rpm is not quite so low as yours.
A bit confused with your drawings as I can't seem to follow what you are trying to achieve here. If the yellow rod is the master then you have it all wrong. Master is a fixed rod as in photo below.
Quite simple really.....experience....I've done it before and like you, I had size too large. i.e. engine was cranky to start, run and adjust. Fuel draw was poor also. So I cut back until it worked...
I'll second that...... also add there is a great feeling when a project fires up for the first time. I have a couple of simpler engines that sit on one end of the workbench ready to run, and when...
Bobby,
Better to start with a simple single cylinder engine if you have never built an engine before.Poppet valve is a good example. The examples you see here are from many years of experience and...
Just a thought on counterweight. It appears there may have been room to make the webs larger and therefore remove the need for "plugs".Should have been able to pick up an extra oz or two there I...
Crankshaft balancing........
An old tutorial but still applicable.
Balancing Small Engines by ET Westbury: Page 2
What about an allen head socket screw inserted through your adaptor and accessed with a rather long tool through the spindle. You would need to add a threaded hole to the square end of your part but...
You might be surprised how small you can go with carby size. When smaller, the engines tend to behave themselves much better. Try something from a .10cu in motor. The 4 cylinder inline engine I built...
550 motor sits in well there.....scale look as well....I think your ratio should be well within the ballpark.
If you can spin engine at 1000 rpm should be more than enough. One advantage of...
ok...see where you are coming from now.
Used to size of engine being quoted in displacement and not length x breadth x height.
I remember council worker who ran out of 2 inch water pipe and wanted...
I originally came to that conclusion, however, back when Steve was building the radiator, I asked how big his engine was, and the reply was 25cc.
