Re: Chatter milling in X direction only

Cutter load is not constant so if the table doesn't deflect under light load but deflects 0.05mm under higher load then a natural consequence would be chatter.

    you still haven't answered the...

Re: Chatter milling in X direction only

You didn't answer all the questions.

How did you set the bearing preload when you replaced the spindle bearings?

0.015mm runout on a spindle is a lot.

Re: Chatter milling in X direction only

You don't provide a great deal of information to go on.

    How old is the machine?
How mach use has the machine had?
    Which model machine is it?
Can you post a photo of the chatter marks?
    Is the...

Re: Face milling fix. Y Tram?

What diameter/type of cutter are you using, what depth of cut and rpm, what material? A DTI only measures the no load condition. The root cause maybe that your machine is not sufficiently rigid to...

    Re: New Tormach PCNC440....very dissapointed

Personally I don't know what real machinists do or don't do but I do know that sensible people check what they are buying before they do. Seems like your biggest problem, which you have failed to...

Re: Tormach 440 Chatter when cutting on Y

So what's the story behind the before and after photos in post 32. If you want help with the diagnosis you need to explain what you did to cause things to go backwards after post 32?

Re: Tormach 440 Chatter when cutting on Y

You can get away with this simpler procedure on a manual mill but it is not suitable for a CNC mill. A manual machine with a lead screw rather than a ball screw will always have some lost motion so...

Re: Tormach 440 Chatter when cutting on Y

What am I missing. Surely rotation of even a bent y axis ballscrew would have no influence on the tables' x axis location if the y axis gib is adjusted correctly and there is no slack in the x axis...

Loctite. Otherwise I think you are into reamer tolerances and bushing diameters to + or - a tenth or so. You will never contour mill the hole to the necessary accuracy.
