Re: Cheaper alternative to Gecko G540

Nothing beats a Geck drive. My THB6064AH driver is nearly as good, and about half the cost. See the link in my signature.

    Re: Stepper driver board replacement

    *cough*

    http://techref.massmind.org/techref/io/motors.htm

Still overkill for a replacement for that board, but they cost a lot less because they are kits.

Are you not happy with rockcliff?...

    Re: Stepper driver board replacement

Gecko might be a bit of overkill, but if you have the money, go for it.

    Re: The stepper question

What Toinvd said. Either motor will "work" with the driver, neither is going to give you much power.

  6. Re: diy pic16f88 cnc servo motor drive 32 bit pid

Hey Al, do you have a sense of what the component cost was for that driver? I'd be interested in making a kit available if the price could be made reasonable.
  7. Re: diy pic16f88 cnc servo motor drive 32 bit pid

Best I can do is 40 volts:

But the BOB PID can run any H-Bridge that supports a PWM and Direction input.

  9. Re: Loosing steps on a hybrid stepper/servo system

That's interesting. It does appear that the Smoothstepper plugin for Mach 4 has no place to set pulse widths. And your issue does appear to be related to the control signals. There is a slim chance...
  10. Re: Loosing steps on a hybrid stepper/servo system

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "the same across 4 different drives"? Of course RF interference would affect all the drives. If all the cables are unshielded, you will get errors on all...
  11. Re: Loosing steps on a hybrid stepper/servo system

The Aliexpress link doesn't work except for you... e.g. it wants a login. Can you describe the unit you purchased? Find a sales link for it?

I ask because I'm trying to understand what is the...

    Re: Too much voltage?

Yeah... no. Hang on... That's mixing things up reg.

Yes, you set the driver to the current rating of the motor (so looking at the motor current rating is right) but the OP was asking about...

Argh. I hate that. But with the title of the video in hand, a little google-fu brings us to:

    Re: Lets talk about encoders

This is really interesting Al. I went looking and couldn't seem to find that video, any idea what keywords I should use? Or if you have any other info on it, I'd love to hear.

    Are they doing an...

Re: Help!! What kit is best for me

Everything john said is 100% correct. However, since you said nothing about speed, and DID say you needed to save money, why not scavenge or salvage motors? There is a list of motors and where you...
  16. Re: Leblond tape turn electro-craft permanent magnet servo motor-tach

I'd be curious to hear how you resolve the driver issue. As to your question 2, that should work just fine.

Re: Z axis too heavy stepper choice

I'm just quoting this because it should be said twice.

Anti-gravity is real! It's called a spring. Or a rope over a pulley to a weight if your Z axis doesn't need to move fast.

    Re: Too much voltage?

As Jim said, its up to the driver, not the motor.
  19. Re: Understanding AC Servo, Encoder, Servo Amp / Drive

ultrasmurf, your description up top is really well written and I think it's pretty much accurate. The comments above are right, however... each motor may be a bit different and the driver for one may...
  20. Re: Help I'm melting!-Stepper driver connections.

This is REALLY good advice. I use a different type of crip connection (one intended for a screw) only because I have a ton of them, but then I cut off the end and just use the part crimped to the...
  21. Re: Encoder/servo selection for a Robotool centroid retrofit

The MassMind non-contact encoders would work nicely in that setup. 4000cpr, TTL AB, and easy to mount since they just use a little magnet.

This web page, especially the block diagram, may help. And there are links to other information. They key point is that the servo driver (the thing that is wired to the motor) must match the motor....
