Very interesting build! I'm waiting to see more and that table surface is Beautiful!
I build guitars, ukuleles and Cigar box guitars. I use bits from here: Carbide 3-flute Fret Cutters and Hardwood Inlay Pocketing tools
Very nice build! I can't wait to see what your friend makes with his router first.
I don't have any new updates to the machine itself, I have stalled on the construction of the control center. I have been using the router however. I wish I had a good video camera but here are a few...
CNC Router Parts racks are only 37" long and I didn't want screw around splicing the racks, besides they cost less. I would have had to buy 5 pieces from CNCRP to get enough for my router, about $285...
I'm very happy with the machine! Yes, I did buy the pro rack and pinion reduction drives from CNC Router parts but I bought the gear racks straight from Moore Gear. I made the pivot blocks myself...
The rails are HGR20 and the carriages are HGH20CA
Lael, Thanks! Since I already had purchased the rack and pinion drives from CNCrouterparts.com I went ahead and bought their NEMA 34 steppers. They are a really good match for the reduction belt...
You're close, it's 1/2" plate with about 3/16" of epoxy.
I'll have to take some videos and post them up, I will have to get some editing software and get that all figured out.
I decided to stay with steppers because of the cost associated with the gear reduction needed for the servos. I pretty much stayed with the original setup plans.
Here's what I ended up buying:

Asuratman, the door frames are all wood.
Gerry, I don't have a spray booth anymore. I used to but I had to move to a smaller shop and didn't have room. I will have one soon, I am looking for a...
Sorry I haven't been here in awhile, I have been busy at work.
Onecut, the cutting size of my table is 49"x49" and 8" between my spoilboard and the bottom of the gantry. I also have about 8" of...
It's been a bad week here, I am on the internet for the first time since last weekend. Last Sunday while making some changes to some code for a carved molding my computer shut down. Turns out my SSD...
Sorry I've been busy with work but I thought I would answer a few questions real quick.
difalkner, Yes I am using pneumatics. I tried to use a couple cylinders and a solenoid valve I already had...
Thanks Gerry! Woodworking is my day job so metalworking has become my hobby.
Here is a pic that shows the dust hood with the brush attached. I still need to get it painted.

OK, Time for an update. The next few pics show how I built the dust collection hood.
The first pic shows the outer skin of 20g sheet steel wrapped around a couple 1" thick plywood formers that...
I'm not really worried about the feet, the threaded end is 5/8"-11 thread and they are rated at 4500 pounds each. I estimated the total weight of the machine at a little under 1500 pounds.
On...
I covered the wood forms with clear packing tape and I used 100% silicone caulking to glue the forms to the steel. The silicone is fairly easy to cut when its time to remove the forms and what is...
I found this with a quick search on eBay New 1Meter 80mm PU Polyurethane Duct Wall Thickness 0 6mm | eBay
Sounds like you have scrounged for some nice parts! I'm along for the ride and awaiting another post.
It's been awhile since my last update, seems to be my SOP these days.
This first pic shows my new tubing end cap on the gantry. I made these out of some solid surface scrap from work, I...
Thanks!
I don't really know what vehicle it fits, I was in Walmart late one night with a tape measure and this one was about the right size for two 120mm fans. It was cheap and since this Walmart...
The linear rail manufacturer, Hiwin, recommend a NLGI #1 grease without high pressure additives. The ball screw is a no-name Chinese off eBay and the seller said grease was fine, so who really...
Ok, another update. It moves!
Here is a short blurry video from my dirty iphone of the spindle moving in a 40" circle and hitting 2000ipm. I had it running faster but it's scary!
...
I have a bit of an update. I have just about finished the wiring and have mounted the limit switches. I still need to mount some blocks to trip the switches but I'm so close now! Here are a few pics...
Great videos! I was surprised to see that I am already subscribed to your YouTube channel.
Finally a small update. I have mounted the electronics and started wiring. I also added an extension to the grease zerk on the ballscrew and cooling fans for the electrical enclosure.

I guess I should have mentioned that the flat I put on my ballscew is probably about 3/16" wide, I never did measure it. I might also mention that my ball screw end is 12mm and cncrouterparts.com...
I filed a flat on mine, I used loctite on the set screw as well.
Yeah, close to $7000. I have a spreadsheet that I am using to track all my expenses, I'm at $6378.18 right now but I do have a few items that I haven't added in yet.
