Re: Bridgeport Series 1 CNC Questions

If the price is right go for it. You sound like you can do the job.I took a Boss 5? and retrofitted it with new nema 40 stepper motors, gutted the controls, wound a new transformer, VFD for the...
  4. Re: Mach3 + ShuttleXpress = odd jog + no keyboard

Go back and reload an older XML file from before the trouble started seems to work for me. Glitches happen and when all else fails you can always reinstall everything.

  7. Re: ANOTHER Bridgeport Mill conversion ( Build )

I did the motor swap to nema 40's had to make shaft adapters. Built a 70v power supply and using gecko G201x drives. My Boss 5 has 2 to 1 reduction on the lead screws. I kept the travel dials they...

    Re: Cnc Extra Cut Prolem

AHA The old missing steps trick. I didn't think about that. I have a Bridgeport Boss 5 with NEMA 35 motors and don't have a missed step problem. Unless I try to move to fast.

    Re: Cnc Extra Cut Prolem

Where is the top of the material? Look at the end of the G code file. I always edit my programs as I get several extra lines that my post processor adds in, especially a G28. The G28 will take it to...

    Re: Attack of Ratzilla

In the machine shop I worked at we used WD for rust prevention. But what I found out is, if you store your tools on the open back shelf you will accumulate dust on the fresh coating of WD then the WD...

  14. Re: Upgrade 6040 to Gecko G540, what else do I need?

Yea been awhile since I have needed help.
  15. Re: Upgrade 6040 to Gecko G540, what else do I need?

You can run at 24V but is better at higher voltage. You wire directly to the 540's terminal board. The 540 can control the VFD, check the documentation it is good and the folks at Gecko Drive are...

Re: z axis advancing to plus during emboss

Cause is loss of steps on the Z. Lower the velocity setting. Using stepper motors the controller tells them to move but being an open loop system it has no way of knowing where it is. If you have...

Re: How do we get away from buffing!

  19. Re: Sorry!! another Newbie with start up issues with a 3020 CNCest machine.

  20. Re: CNCEST 6040 Newby problem with milling aluminium

That is not a milling machine. It's not ridged enough. Carbide cutters will chip and brake with the vibrations that are generated. You might try HSS cutters but rigidity will still be a problem....

Sneak the wife's cloths iron out to the shop and apply heat to the parts. It may loosen the adhesive enough I would think. I use double sided foam tape to hold parts down when the part has no holes....

diecutter has the right solution. Add the screws then the parts can be cut without being thrown about and no end of cut burrs. I do this all the time myself.
