Will be interesting to see how that works out.

Will be interesting to see how that works out.
Good to see you still posting.
How are you handling the belt tension?
Pics or it didn't happen :)
If the stepper is new or has info on it, you should be able to find the info needed. If you can't find documentation on what you have you can ohm the wires to find which go to which winding.
...
How many wires do your steppers have?
They are doing great. I did have some backlash return- but turns out I had bolts come loose.
Good luck with the Illness- hopefully it’s minor.
Its a Lenze VFD? does it have a display?
If no error codes are displayed- Check the for an enable/run circuit on the control terminals of the drive. I'd guess it probably has a run input, a...
Nice work so far.
So am I seeing the Y axis as a belt drive behind the column?
Well I finished up the install today,
I had to disassemble the mill 3X times to check fitment, and them reassemble to mill the new parts. I had the cut down the flanges on both ballscrew nuts to...
Well, hopefully some of the older, more experienced Chinese kids put these together then :)
It does say they are individually loaded. I'll be disappointed if these do not drastically improve the...
These are not “Chinese” screws as far as I’m aware. They atleast have listed tolerances/specs and are sold by a reputable company here in the states, so if they wind up being far worse than the...
These are called out as angular contact bearings, so we will see.
The C7 screws have a spec'd single nut backlash rating of <.0006". Excited to see the results after I get them installed.
Man, just not much action here.
Anyway, I ordered a new X and Y ballscrew from the link I posted, with matching support bearings, ballnut mounts and motor couplings. Might take a bit of fiddling...
I wonder- if 10+ years later, if he sorted things out....
Curious,
I'm thinking about replacing my X and Y ballscrews with new. I currently have .008" of backlash on both axis... My Y axis tends to struggle to maintain .008, as it still uses a generic...
We call it Cold rolled as well. Yes, technically its drawn not rolled, but, "CRS" is a pretty common description for any cold finished steel.
What size rails, 30? They seem huge!
I'm curious how the single bearing trucks will work out.
What ballscrews are you using
Well I think I figured out my issue,
I was trying to turn off tool offsets on the Mach 3 offsets page, but my code was running a g43 that apparently turns it back on. I also found I had zeroed my...
How do you (personally) use tool offsets in Mach 3?
I've been just touching off each tool, and wanted to try using offsets.
I measured all my tools+holders from tip to the spindle face (Tormach...
After more looking into the stepper online servo kit, it does have tuning software available for it. I'm going to do some more thinking, but it would get me a 1000W servo for about $450 shipped.
I currently have a 3/4hp dc brushed motor, and a controller that doesn’t modulate speed well. So with much load, it will slow, then ramp high, and repeat.
I’d assume a 3/4hp ac servo would...
So I'm still looking for the best option to improve my spindle motor setup,
It seems like the DMM drive/servo setup is one of the best options for me, but its close to $1,000. The only gains...
Ive been spending a fair amount of time improving my old Grizzly G0463 mill lately, and have been wondering about an improved spindle motor/control setup..
I currently run the stock motor, a...
From my initial cuts, the mill is well worth upgrading now. The mill sounds solid, and the surface finish is far better than ever before.
I'll probably tram it and check for backlash in the XY...
Well holy crap.
I installed a cheap Z ballscrew mount with angular bearings today, and put everything back together.
I did a couple test cuts in 6061, and it sounded fine. I loaded a program...
The zkln's are a bit pricey for this setup, I ordered a set of BK12 mount and a BF12 support, I'll fit those on and see how things go.
I may try to replace the X and Y mounts with similar, it...
So-
I started tearing into the old mill, removed the Z ballscrew. I was wanting to find replacement screws, but I noticed the fixed end of the Z screw had a loose nut.
It has a pair of thrust...
Interesting. Yea, most of my use would require tool changes, center drilling, drilling, and profiling with a roughly a .250" endmill. I just couldn't see a high speed "router spindle" as I call it,...
I'm not finding any real solutions for a spindle. Maybe I should aim at rebuilding the spindle I have with good bearings and see where that gets me.
