Re: EMCO VMC100 (1980'S MODEL) POST

Note: Baud rate in TM02 control (parameter D0) must match config setting in SP.

To reload MSD in the event of memory loss the following procedure is used (source can also be RS232)

Re: EMCO VMC100 (1980'S MODEL) POST

    Hi Louis,

Yes, my VMC100 is still operating as above.

The program that I use to transfer the NC program to the TM02 is an EMCO supplied dos terminal program called SP; it runs in a command...
  5. Re: Help! Problems with spindle/spindle driver on an old VMC100.

    Hi Martin,
For now the machine is still chugging along under the original TM02 control, I have not had any time to do any further investigating on an upgrade.
    Cheers,
    Dan

Re: EMCO VMC100 (1980'S MODEL) POST

    Hi Liam,
I load my programs using the RS232 exclusively (mine is a TM02 control, but TM01 should be the same).
First you need to be sure your computer is set to the same settings as the machine......

Re: How to clean dried coolant, oil, and chips?

If the Crud is a build up of water based coolant & swarf, the BEST way to dissolve it, is to mix up a fresh batch of water based coolant in the proper ratio and spray it on the crud till it...

    Re: Hercus Computurn Lathe Help

    Hi Shefey,

I have a 1986 Hercus Compulathe, it is a very solid and well designed machine (mechanically). It was very expensive when new... I was told by the trade-school instructor where mine came...
  9. Re: Random Surface Defects in Parallel Finish Pass

It could also be that the actual corner of each step is between the step-over cuts. You might just need to run a clean-up cut at the exact end of each step at each corner. Also if the cutter...
  10. Re: Random Surface Defects in Parallel Finish Pass

I think your problem is more likely to be in the G-code program. I have seen this type of thing in the past (in my moldmaking days)... It is usually always due to the code. But to be clear this was...
  11. Re: Takumi V8a w/Mitsubishi Meldas 520an Controls - How to load automatic tool change

So, what are you making with the machine?
The Takumi worked well when I ran it (10+ years ago). It may never compare to a German made DMG, but I can say we ran the Takumi day & night including lots...
  12. Re: Takumi V8a w/Mitsubishi Meldas 520an Controls - How to load automatic tool change

The images will open full size if you click on them, it will pop-up bigger then click on again on the pop-up it will open in a new window, then click once more to magnify (pgs 3-10, 3-11, 3-12). info...
  13. Re: Takumi V8a w/Mitsubishi Meldas 520an Controls - How to load automatic tool change

Well if the tool changer is working correctly I wouldn't worry about it... But, I'd double-check the operation for every tool by identifying each tool using a piece of tape on each toolholder to...
  14. Re: Takumi V8a w/Mitsubishi Meldas 520an Controls - How to load automatic tool change

Hey sounds like you're making progress - Great !

You mentioned swing-arm back there... Now that's a slightly different animal than the "Umbrella" type carousel that I was referring to.
    In this...
  15. Re: Takumi V8a w/Mitsubishi Meldas 520an Controls - How to load automatic tool change

    Hi hdokes,

My memory is a bit foggy, its been over ten years since running that machine, but I'm thinking the M6 may not be required in manual mode to activate the toolchange.
    Try putting...
  16. Re: Takumi V8a w/Mitsubishi Meldas 520an Controls - How to load automatic tool change

I ran one of those machines many years ago... so my memory is a bit rusty.
Which type of ATC does it have? Carousel or Swing-arm?
The one I ran had the carousel type; we would load the tools...
  17. Re: Supermax Rebel 1, ATC crash, broke the carousel in 3 pieces, cause unknown, help

We had the same thing happen on a Takumi VMC where I used to work. The cause was due to the BT40 tool taper sticking in the spindle taper (similar to the way a morse taper locks into a mating taper)....

From what you describe, the machine is functioning correctly.

    Re: BT30 Spindle Help

As others have said, at lower HP the keys are not necessary.

As an example, my EMCO VMC-100 toolholders do not have any keys as designed by EMCO; it uses sk30 taper holders custom made to fit...
  22. Re: Help! Problems with spindle/spindle driver on an old VMC100.

    Hi Johan,

I received my replacement spider the other day and installed it; the machine is functioning 100% correctly now. (The temporary fix came unglued after only a few minutes of test runs, but...
  23. Re: Help! Problems with spindle/spindle driver on an old VMC100.

    Hi Johan,
Its seems like the "Best Before Date" had expired on our machines...! :)

I don't know what the shelf-life is on these spiders, but I found a couple "new old stock" on eBay; I paid too...
  24. Re: Help! Problems with spindle/spindle driver on an old VMC100.

    Hi Johan,

I can say conclusively now that my problem is due to the failure of this flexible coupling. I used a few drops of crazy glue to re-assemble the original polyurethane insert. After it was...
  25. Re: Help! Problems with spindle/spindle driver on an old VMC100.

Good news… I think found the problem!!

It turns out the problem is purely mechanical; I pulled the encoder off the top of the spindle motor and found the Polyurethane insert in the flexible...
  26. Re: Help! Problems with spindle/spindle driver on an old VMC100.

    Hi Johan,
The spindle on my machine seems to be behaving EXACTLY as you described yours. It started as a slight hiccup, but after shutting down and restarting the next day, it is just buzzing...
  27. Re: Help! Problems with spindle/spindle driver on an old VMC100.

Ummm , I think your VMC100 problem is contagious...!

  28. Re: Help! Problems with spindle/spindle driver on an old VMC100.

    Hi Johan,
My VMC100 is operating correctly at the moment... hopefully I don't get your problem!
After looking at the video, my best guess is possibly a toasted bridge rectifier in the spindle...
