    Single axis motion control?

I have a friend who purchased an older Hurco brake press. the machine was CNC controlled but the controls were from the early 80's and were removed at some point. The CNC worked by entering in a...

Re: Laguna 3 Axis CNC Wood Turner

Sorry I'm very late with my response. We're you able to get this up and running?

This is an older machine. Your best bet is to upgrade it to something more modern. I would suggest a smooth stepper...

Re: Laguna 3 Axis CNC Wood Turner

I'm pretty familiar with these machines. Can you post pictures of what you have? including the connections and the internals. based on the 50 pin connection it sounds like you have the older style.
  4. Upgrading control system, help picking what I need

I am chucking the old control system on a CNC. It uses an integrated circuit board for the power supply and the stepper drivers.

I plan to replace this with a smooth stepper.

    The stepper motors...

Pinout for Growth series controller box

I currently have a Growth series 2x4 table. I use Mach 4 on all my other machines and would like to switch this one over.

The box has a 25 pin connector on the back, does anyone know where I can...
  6. Ineed a Timing pulley and belt supplier with decent prices &resonable shipping times

I am looking for an aluminum 12 tooth XL037 timing pulley with a 12mm bore. And a 140xl037 belt to go with it.

I can't seem to find a supplier that has both of these and reasonable prices (Like...
  7. Re: I want to add a high speed 4th axis, Will a servo motor run at high speeds?

Thanks for all the feedback. It sounds like what I have may not be ideal. I injured my shoulder and will be out of the shop for a few weeks. This should give me some time to do more research and...
  8. I want to add a high speed 4th axis, Will a servo motor run at high speeds?

I want to add a high speed 4th axis on my machine to use like a lathe. To get clean cuts I need to spin the workpiece up to 3000 rpm (I think). It will also need to have a decent amount of power as...
  9. Re: When is spindle nose pressurization for on a spindle for wood

SO I would only need a few pounds of air at this connection. It requires 90 for the tool change, so I could add a reducer.
  10. When is spindle nose pressurization for on a spindle for wood

I am looking at a new to me spindle with ATC for my machine. It has an air connection labeled as "Spindle Nose Pressurization". My current ATC spindle does not have this connection. The spindle is...
  11. Re: Running spindle slower than listed speed range what will happen?

Ran quite a bit through last night and the bits still look/perform good. I only have 30 more parts left to do, so we'll see if they hold up. I'm expecting they will.

Re: Z Axis changes coordinates mid program

I think Macchips has the correct idea that tool offset may be causing your issue.

it's expected that the work coordinates, and the machine coordinates will be different. The only time I would...

Re: Z Axis changes coordinates mid program

I'm curious why you feel this process is bad (granted there may be an error in the code, I didn't check it). The goal was to do a bunch of motions where the machine should return to the original...

Re: Z Axis changes coordinates mid program

Missed the part where he was using servos. I agree that's most likely not the issue
  15. Re: CNCRP Linear Rail Mod... taking baby steps...

Thanks this is great!. I have a couple of the Amana tools and just ordered a couple of the lakeshore ones. Hopefully I'll get to work on this soon!
  16. Re: Running spindle slower than listed speed range what will happen?

I tried my idea of switching tools after every 3 parts, which is 174 holes. Seems to work pretty good, I made another 45 parts, so I'm about 2/3 done now. the drill bits all seem to be fine after...

Re: Z Axis changes coordinates mid program

It's hard to know what the application is doing based on one line of code. In your image, on the right hand side, could you translate what is written above the positions?

    Another way to test if...
  18. Re: Running spindle slower than listed speed range what will happen?

This is probably a one time thing, so not worth investing in a machine upgrade. Although I did find a drill head for my spindle, basically a speed reducer, but they are a few grand new!

    I...
  19. Re: Running spindle slower than listed speed range what will happen?

I'm using normal 2mm twist bits, much cheaper than a router bit.

I tried pecking, but with only 1/4" material it didn't seem to make a difference.
  20. Re: Running spindle slower than listed speed range what will happen?

I don't have a heat gun, but It ran for about 3 hours last night (with pauses for material changes) at 12000rpm. After all that time the spindle was only warm to the touch.

    My spindle is a 6.6hp,...

No its a Columbo atc. I can burn several hundred bits cheaper than replacing the spindle.

It uses an externally powered fan for cooling. It's mounted to a large aluminum plate as well. I've never...
  22. Running spindle slower than listed speed range what will happen?

I am working on a project where I need to drill lots of holes in 1/4" MDF. After lots of testing I got some bits that have good tool life and figured out plunge rates that keep it pretty cool. The...
  23. Re: CNCRP Linear Rail Mod... taking baby steps...

Your attachments are a dead link. But the finish on some of your parts look pretty good in the first post. Would you mind posting the bit(s) you use as well as the details on your setup (feedrate,...

Re: Z Axis changes coordinates mid program

It sounds like you are losing steps in the z- direction there could be a few causes:

Since it's always creeping up, I think you may be trying to drive your tool into the work to fast, causing Z to...

Yes my version is licensed. It is the hobby version. I don't do any commercial work.
  26. How is tool length setting with an atc supposed to work

I have always just manually adjusted everything on my machine since most of my work is one off stuff.

I am trying to configure my machine to just accept a CAM file generated in fusion 360 with out...
  27. Re: how do I drill lots of small diameter holes in MDF

Thanks, I ordered these. Hopefully they will hold up.

My machine only goes down to 12,000 rpm, so with pecking hopefully they will last. I did see on a site where a guy was doing the same thing,...
  28. how do I drill lots of small diameter holes in MDF

I need to drill 106 holes all the way through 3/4" thick MDF. The hole diameter needs to be 3/32".

I am unable to find a bit small enough to do this. I'd like a center up cut spiral bit. But the...

Did a quick look and the Gary Campbell system looks to be just for noise, while allowing a large flow of air for cooling. If you are going to put them in a different room I would just let them run in...

Re: How do I slow down a pneumatic cylinder?

Thanks for all the help, I added a second flow restrictor, and now have them right by the cylinder inlet/outlets. The solved the issue, after a little adjustment the cylinder is moving nicely!
