Looks like the keyboard plugin is going to be the answer. On the jog tab I do have a green button that reads "enable keyboard input" or something similar but clicking on it does nothing.

When I run the write wizard to engrave copy on ABS and set the Xo and Yo start to 1.0 each, the Xo reverts back to something else when I return to change the copy.
