The new Fusion 360 Instructional Modeling videos (for an Archtop Acoustic) are out!

6 1/2 hours of instructional material that...
Thanks! Yeah I have been using KeyShot as the software to render, but the build in solidworks renderer is not bad....I always struggle with environments, and process for the most part is...
Hi All,
Have been away from these forums for a while, but I have been doing a lot of work on my new website.
A bit of a shameless plugin :-) But you might want to check it out here:

All is answered there.... :-)
Say good buy to your CNC machines!!!

:-)
I am using line grinder also, and it works great, but I have the most diffiucult time getting it to understand the origin, when I export from DesignSpark. It basically just puts the origin where it...
Nothing really irregular....
Really simple terminology......I have a part....and I have a stock model that is SLIGHTLY larger than the part.....and close follows it's shape..import both into...
Thank you for your reply....
-We are talking 3D toolpaths....and more specifically surfacing...like for example flowline, or for that matter many of the HS toolpaths....none of them seem to take...
Hi all,
I was wondering if some of the experts here can shed some light on the following: Is it possible to use a stock model, which is imported into Mastercam as an STL, in order to have...
Do a search for my other threads here, and you
Will see what was done... Not only was the top tunned,
But spectral graphs were taken to compare the sound
Between that, and one with glued braces......
i have 3 coats of sealer and then 6-7 coats of nitro lacquer.. sanded down...then one more coat....sanded to 600, then buffed out....then final swirl mark polish and I was done....
Hi All,
This is the Archtop I just completed (Need some final touches, like a truss rod cover, tuning peg alignment etc). The top is Sitka Spruce, and the back and sides soft maple...Cocobolo...
You do AWESOME WORK!! Great Guitars and Build!! Congrats!
(BTW: LOVE the Archtop!!! :-) )
Just some more on this...
It seems that CNC software is actually doing something about this!!
I was just browsing their website, and it seems that Mastercam X6 is now able to use a stock model...
Thanks!
That is actually quite cleaver!...to do the operation, not post it, and then do a remaining operation to cut the part with a rest machining pass...I learn something everyday here!
That...
Yeah...I think that is the way to go if I do not want aircut...
Another thing which I think will work, and i am running the simulations now, is to do a rough High Speed and use the Rest...
Thanks for your reply.....
Still a bit confused....you say raster pass for surface high speed, but raster is not a roughing pass, it is a finishing pass...no real difference...if I could do a...
Hi All,
I was wondering if some of the experts here can shed some light on this...I am trying to eliminate having the tool do a lot of "air cutting" while creating roughing surfacing...
Ok, so here is a comparison between a 1 inch thick engleman spruce block of wood (24 inches long, by 9 inches accross), and the finished top....
The Green graph is of the block of wood, the...
yeap...makes sense.
That is next....taking the spectra of the boards...I had actually done that previously, and I will do it again and post. What is quite noticeable, the spectrum of a plain...
All,
Just posted a short video on how I machined the top mentioned above...
archtopcut.mp4 - YouTube
Enjoy...
And the proof...
Well, here are the spectrum graphs for a top with glued braces, vs the top I just cut with the integrated braces....
The GREEN graph is the integrated braced top..
The Light...
OK..so the top is done....now we need to do the bottom, and this will take me a while, as I do not yet have the wood for that...looking for some nice tiger maple to use for it...but in the mean time,...
OK...SO here it is! Just came back from my shop where my CNC machine was running...
I am EXTREMELY happy with the results....the integrated braces look absolutely awesome!
As you can see, a...
OK..so the tool paths are done, and it is looking good!
Now to start cutting some wood, and make chips fly at 120 IPM!!
LOL....
More to come.....
OK..I see where you are coming from.....however, the process of creating a Les-Paul top is somewhat different than that of a PRS...the PRS in my opinion, and in the way I modeled it, is much...
Thank you for that suggestion....
I think that is a great idea! One issue with that I see, is that there are not many reference materials out there (like for example a good set of plans) which...
Hi All,
As many of you know, my Archtop videos are out, but I have gotten a couple requests to do a specific series on how to model a Les-paul ('59 archtop) with Solidworks.
How many would be...
So other than going down the discussion on who owns the patent etc (as i think this thread is not about that), I would think that with a quarter-sawn piece of spruce for example, the integral...
All,
I just released my new series of videos! Just an FYI!
