    Re: Rotary table indexer

It's been a while since I updated anything so I though I'd mention there's a new version of the firmware available.

This version (3.03) has a number of changes.
    These include:

    Both stepper...
  2. Re: SMC5-5-N-N Chinese controller - anyone have experience with it?

Ah, OK - so "factory reset" doesn't do what I supposed and return me to 3.7.1?
    I'll give that a go.

    [edit]
Thanks that worked. Just need to enter everything again.

    I completely misunderstood...
  3. Re: SMC5-5-N-N Chinese controller - anyone have experience with it?

Hi, I bought this a while ago to avoid Mach 3 and a PC and it's been working well other than an issue with the probe (I couldn't get it to reset the Y when it touched).

    I'm not massively familiar...

    Hi Nick,

You don't need a closed loop system but there's nothing to stop you using one.
(I get "page not found" for your link)

The system has been tweaked and a few features added since the...

    Re: Rotary table indexer

I've replied to this via email but I thought a reply here might be of help to anyone else with a similar issue (and in case my email gets whacked by a spam filter).

So setting the motor to 400...

    Re: Rotary table indexer

Hi, the cheap and cheerful TB6600 should work fine. I use them all the time with no problems.

Set them to half step (400 steps) and in setup on the controller find "Swap Clock Pulse" and make sure...

    Re: Rotary table indexer

For 'normal' use a typical Nema 23 motor of around 2-4A will easily spin a 10" table.

I use a similar motor but set the current low to just over 1A and via a 90:1 worm that turns a 10 inch swing...

    Re: Rotary table indexer

    Hi John,
    that's exactly how it works.

So basically internally it multiplies the number of divisions by the actual division its on then divides the result by the number of steps for a full circle...

    Re: Rotary table indexer

1 amp in itself shouldn't be an issue - and a bit odd that the motor runs when microstepping. More likely I'd have thought that the voltage to the driver is low?
(FWIW I run my 2.5A motor at about...

I must admit I can't see anything on the data sheet that says what happens if you leave all switches 'on'. My best guess would it would default to 'full' stepping which would mean 200 steps per rev...

    Re: Rotary table indexer

The 4520 is a direct replacement for the 452 so you should just be able to swap them.

The firmware has been fairly stable for a number of years now, most changes have been fixing edge case bugs or...

    Re: Rotary table indexer

I haven't checked but I think the version of the firmware you're using has "Set Worm Ratio" rather than "Steps for 360".
If so then it assumes a 400 step motor such that a 90:1 ratio would give you...

    Re: Rotary table indexer

The basic problem is that you need it to work at 400.

    Here's why. With 400 steps per revolution of the motor and a 90:1 ratio then 360 degrees would be 400 * 90 = 36,000.
    The largest number you...

    Hi,

does it reset when you press a key? If so then in my experience about 10% of 452's do this for reasons I've never figured out. Try replacing it.
