Evan, did you ever do anything with this project? I also recently picked up a 3018 and already upgraded the gantry using 12mm linear rails. I also happen to have an unused G540 and UC100 controller...
Yep, that's their game. But ebay has your back. As long as you file a complaint before the expiration time, they give the seller 2 days to respond. If no response, ebay will refund your $$ and NOT...
As it turns out, I didn't change from it. I picked up the SMC5 controller to have expanded functionality and larger screen, but it wasn't really necessary. I ended up getting a new DDCS v3.1...
I just picked up one of these controllers, and as per usual the Chinglish manual is nearly useless. Seems like a decent controller, but from all my searching I'm starting to feel like the userbase is...
+1 on that! Those skills would come in extremely handy in this hobby. I have bounced between automotive and aerospace design work. You must have a pretty strong business to have purchase both of...
Excellent! I've not done anything 3D yet, mostly 2.5D. I've had my machine up & running for only about a week now, and still need to get my table clamps made (which I will do next week).
Catia &...
Thank you Rob!
Actually liking the controller quite well. Of course I've not done anything too serious with it yet, but from all indications it looks like it should be great.
The DDCSV1.1 is...
Hello all, it's been several years since I've been active on here. My last project was a 7 x 10 lathe
I'm back again, this time with a custom X-carve. I started with a 1000 x 1000 machine, and...
Same here, I'm sitting on the funds, but very reluctant to jump in. It's been well over a month, so I hope rbmgf7 had a good outcome with this.
edit: THIS is exactly why I'm sitting on my $$....
Regretfully, I sold my lathe several months ago so I can't help you with the overall height dimension, but that's easy enough to get anyway. Depending on what size tools you plan on using on the 7x,...
The toolpost riser is a piece of cake... so much so that I didn't make a drawing for it. I used a piece of 2" dia. round stock, measured the stack-up height of the current compound slide, and faced...
If you decide you can go with a 7x10, here's a simple and solid conversion that's fully reversible. And, it's complete with CAD drawings for the conversion parts. Have a look....

I have to respectfully disagree about teaching middle-school aged kids the cryptic and arcane G-codes unless you want them to zone out pretty quickly. I DO agree that you should teach them ABOUT...
That was my feeling exactly, I wanted to keep the mass under the saddle, and I was also wanting to keep the footprint no larger than the original lathe (no motors sticking out anywhere).
I used KL23H276-30-8B from keling, and all the dimensions you could possibly want are given on spec sheets on their website. These motors are 282 oz motors. They are not as efficient or perfectly...
Not being able to make your own parts and not wanting to put a lot of $$ into it are conflicting issues, but you can't get much more simple & cheap than that conversion. Yes, backlash will most...
Final Update: Lathe has been sold :(
A gentleman bought it who will put it to very good use though, and that makes me happy. He makes some sort of air gun upgrade/modification parts, and business...
Sold it yesterday to a guy who will actually put it to great use. He makes some sort of specialized air gun parts and was getting pretty tired of making them on his manual lathe. I'm hoping he will...
Lexington, KY Craigslist
Unfortunately that just became less of an option, Justin. We are moving into a smaller place next month, so it's become more of a necessity that I sell it, else it will end up in storage (which still...
Jon, what's up buddy? Long time no chat. I dunno about selling it or not.... I'm leaning towards not at the moment, depending on what happens with our townhouse and if we have to move or not.

Here sloppy, in the true spirit of helpfulness, I've got you covered.

Print, cut, tape. You're welcome....
Wow, that's a pretty substantial difference.
Welcome to the forums sloppy!
Nice lathe, nice modifications so far!
Hey Justin, where did you get that cart you have your lathe on? If I don't end up selling mine, I may move it onto something like that.
Valid point. Years ago when I was machining for a living, I made the jump from a manual Bridgeport to a 2-axis CNC mill. I struggled with it for a week or 2, bemoaning the fact that I could do a...
Hey Art, right offhand I really can't think of a reason why this wouldn't work, and it would be the easiest approach, since you wouldn't have to build a whole new carriage block that's usually...
You do feel the stepper motor when cranking by hand. It's not silky-smooth like it would be without the stepper, but it also doesn't feel overly intrusive to doing manual work.
