Directly connected. Is there a stand alone opto isolation device that I can add? Although the driver box is about 13 years old so I don't feel too bad, I don't feel I'm a lucky person either.

Fixed! Or rather a suitable work around. Moved the probe to an input on port 2 of the ESS. Thank you Warp 9 for providing 3 ports!
Finally back to my SOP. Sometimes you don't realize how important...
Wow. Sorry for the fat fingers and auto corrupt.

The input pins are pulled up. At least the ESS is much easier to access. I see if I can do we checking there.

Pretty sure that's it. Been a while since I layed eyes on it. Like, three days, so of course I can remember.
I'm also using an ESS so the problem could be there also?

I am moderately sure I have the Hobby CNC Pro chopper driver board. It is 10+ years old. The input I have assigned to my probe has stopped working. I have ohmed all the wiring right to the board and...
How do you do it Gerry?
That was it. AGAIN, you have helped me.
A big thank you to all those that helped me narrow it down and make suggestions. I guess I need to rework my limit switch...
Thanks for everyones input and assistance. It's wierd that it will cut air without issue, but as soon as the tool touches the workpiece it triggers an e stop.

I ran a small part by zeroing the tool and then removing the probe connection from the spindle mount. E stop within a minute. Not to say this isn't how the noise is being introduced, but there was no...
The machine frame is grounded to mains ground. The spindle mount is aluminum and has continuity through the frame, but that does go through the linear motion bearings.
I'm also using the spindle...
No. The VFD cable is not shielded. I may order some shielded cable and replace it. I find it odd that I'm getting false e stops and the FVD cable is a long ways from the e stop wiring.

New machine. FLA 100. New Chinese spindle(Hyunyang 2.2kw). I'm getting an e stop almost as soon as the tool starts cutting. I've heard these cheap spindles and VFD's are noise factories too.

I did find that the Y axis rails were a bit wobbly so I added this box structure to the rear which stiffened it up dramatically. It will also make a great place to lay my cable carrier!
A few more pics including the bearing assembly and arrangement. I'll have to say it sure is nice to design and draw up something a tad complex like this and cut out the parts and have them fit...
I got my Lovejoy couplers today, and I will have to say I was a bit dissapointed to find that they are not real tight. I didn't get the Buna rubber but the next hardest spiders as that was all that...
Wildwestpat, Thanks for the info. I'll definately keep that in mind. Somehow I don't think this will be my last build!
Pics as promised.

Your right it's too late! I did look at angular contact bearings and thought about using them but I already had a few regular thrust bearings and decided to go that route. I think on my next build I...
Thanks guys for your input!
Neat bearings tobyaxis!
My plan now is to machine the bearing blocks to accept two stacked radial bearings on the driven end of the screws with a thrust bearing on...
Thanks for the advice.
I'll order some LoveJoy connectors and use radial bearings at both ends of the screws. I guess it would be acceptable to put the thrust bearings on just one end of the...
So I'm building my second router and I'm interested in opinions about the use of radial and thrust bearings on the lead screws. My first machine used both types of bearings on both ends of each...
Steve,
First off, very nice machine! I have the same Hobby CNC kit that you are using but my router is using 5/8-11 all thread as screws direct coupled to the steppers. I can't imagine how you can...
Hope this is the right place for this question.
A freind of mine has a bridgeport mill with B&L DRO. Can't remember the model off the top of my head, but will call him and get it if its needed. He...
I've been trolling around here for a while and have finaly decided to start building my first machine. I have borrowed a few ideas from other machines and have a few tweaks that I plan to implement...
