    Re: New guy needing advice

If money wasn't an issue I would also go for a PDB, but he said he was on a budget.

On a small real estate mill like the 770, I feel $1K is better spent on a $600 fixture plate, and a second $400...

    Re: New guy needing advice

I know many are going to jump on me for this, but if he's looking to cut his time per part from 4 days to 4 hours, than the Power Draw Bar is a luxury. A manual tool change takes less than a minute...

  4. ERROR 402: Y-Axis software limit overtravel

Our 1997, VM16 with Centurian VI controller has just started throwing this error at cycle start.

It throws the error regardless of where the table is at the beginning of cycle start.

    Re: Tormach 770 Newbie?

I've been wanting those for awhile. It's been a few summers since Tormach told me they were "on the way". Maybe it's time to start bugging them again.

    Re: Fusion 360 subscription changes

You still have me confused. Where is this $1,000 per year coming from? The qualifications for the Startup License are:

    - Businesses with 10 or fewer employees.
    - Businesses (including parent...

    Re: Fusion 360 subscription changes

HSMXpress is only 2.5. Sprut can do more but the interface and workflow always bothered me. I use Solidworks/HSMXpress at work and it's pretty slick, but our parts aren't very complicated.

    Re: Fusion 360 subscription changes

How do you figure? The hobby version doesn't include translators so you can't open other file formats, but if you've been working in Fusion for awhile you can still export your .igs files. Or am I...

    Re: Tormach 770 Newbie?

Since you're just starting out, I would agree with kstrauss and recommend one for now...at least until you get a better feel for what you'll be making.

But, I wouldn't get the biggest vise you can...
  10. Re: Post Processor for PCNC1100 with SprutCam 9 and Mach3

Mach only had one glitch for me, but the reason above is exactly why I ditched it and went with PP. A company reliant on a third party, is tied to the destiny of that third party.

    Re: Toolchanger vs Multipart /Offsets

Hey Mike, for me the real power of multiple offsets is when I'm doing multiple setups on the same part...a different offset for each op. That way I'm taking off completed parts with each loading.

Ok, that makes sense. I've avoided the tool changer for reliability and cost reasons myself.

    Re: Toolchanger vs Multipart /Offsets

I'm confused...is this a video comparing a tool changer with one work offset, to manual tool changes with multiple work offsets? If you have a tool changer, can it not do multiple offsets?

    I...

Re: Buying a 770M, do I need these kits?

I disassembled my 770 into three parts, and 2 of my buddies helped me get it down my basement stairs. It's not easy, but it can be put back together with 2-3 people and no hoist.

Re: Help me determine the best ROI!

If it was me I'd take the two 1100's, but you seem to have more money than time (which is why I assume you are concerned about running lights out) so like Ray says, I'd also go for the HAAS.
  19. Re: Vertical Profile mark left after doing a lead out. is there a way to prevent it?

How big of a radius is your lead in and out? A larger radius will create a smoother transition onto, and off of the part which could help with the line.

And ideally this is what I would also...

    Re: Choosing a 3D Mill Cad/Cam

I'm not familiar with OneCNC. We looked at it here at work years ago, but eventually ended up going with GibbsCAM. About a year ago, I switched us to HSMXpress.

    Re: Choosing a 3D Mill Cad/Cam

There could be a slight difference from the factory. Tolerances do shift in the manufacturing process, and since they are "up" and "down" cut bits, they were more than likely made on different...

Re: Tormach 2200 Professional CNC - your dream list

That was actually the solution Tormach gave me when I asked them last year. Again, price is an issue since I want at least 5-10 to start with. Realistically, I'd like to have about 20.

    Sorry to...
