That actually looks great - similar to what I have in mind. Won't be using a large CNC to do it though - just elbow grease and a healthy dose of frustration :)
Your design looks great! And familiar :) Have you built it yet???
That's definitely the build that inspired me most. About a year of researching other builds too - while waiting for decent...
Thanks so much! It's been serving me well.
Very nice! Great to see it running under its own steam. Good luck with the ATC!
Thanks so much for the feedback. Looks like it would be worth the purchase. Appreciate the link.
Wow! Progress looks great.
I'll be interested to see that crimping tool. I have a hard time with custom length motorcycle battery cables. Usually end up doing the vice trick. Hasn't failed me...
I'm beginning to realize that I need to check my grounding. I think this is the issue I'm having. I think my star grounding is done correctly - but I definitely do not have the v- tied to that.

Thanks again for the reply.
My only concern with the momentary switch is that it may not be repeatable? bit if you're having luck with it - I'd be willing to give it a shot.
Thanks so much for the reply! Can you explain what you mean by "a simple switch...". The spindle is definitely not isolated. I was beginning to think that this lack of isolation was my issue - after...
Wondering if you ever figured this out. I am having a hard time getting the g540/Mach3 and simple touch probe to work without having intermittent "digitize" light flashing.
The digitize light...
This is a shot of the CAD file when I was fairly close to finalizing the design....

More than anything, it really depends on what you plan to use the machine for cutting. I knew that I would be working almost exclusively on aluminum. While steel framing would have probably been...

Today saw the addition of a Fogbuster unit. I am using Kool Mist for the cooling (and supposedly the new formula provides...
Brian,
I got the ballscrews from the eBay seller "soloarjean" (many reviews here on the forums) who was really great to to deal with, and very accommodating with custom sizing. I realize that...
Thanks so much CS900! It's been a while in the making, but very satisfying now that it's finally "done...." Is it ever really done? :)
Cutting some of the first parts to roll off the new machine.... Taking it slow! :)

Hey folks!
Been a long-time fan of this forum, and I have learned a ton browsing through the various sub-forums, and researching all the knowledge that this group provides. I rebuild custom,...
Great read! Like the rest of the crew here, waiting with baited breath to see those first parts roll off the line...
Hoping you are getting somewhere with the Linuxcnc. I am just completing a new...
Now THAT would be getting fancy. This too would be an option I'd have to put in the "Phase 2" column. :) But a really nice solution.
Jeff, I figured that I would not need full power for the air flow on the CNC, but unfortunately we do need it for the other machines we use it for (blast cab etc). But I remembered I have an old...
That's some good thinking! Unfortunately I don't have a spare fridge around, or I'd be at it with the tools :)
Thanks for the response Jeff. I've been thinking about how best to cool the end mills as well. I had hoped to have an option other than misting/coolant. That would obviously influence the air/chip...
Good call. That might be a decent option. Nice and compact.
Thanks Jim
I'm sure our shop vac would throw enough air - it's always kicking up enough dust when shooting out the back :)
I know I've seen people use small(ish) fans. They may not have been...
Hey folks. I did a search but could not seem to find the info I need. I am in the process of building a new DIY CNC (primarily for use with aluminum) and would like to try blowing chips clear of the...
This was a great read. Appreciate all the details - and a well done DIY machine. I'm about to begin my second CNC router build (CAD designing stage now) and found some great inspiration here.
Now...
That looks great! And a good idea to space the holes at increments you determined would be best for your work. Seems like everyone could figure out what workpiece sizes they most often utilize and...
Aha. Very nice.
Gotcha. I could see access to the adjustment screws being a challenge - but the ability to fine tune the rail would be very helpful.
Have you settled on a steel frame? Unfortunately, I'm not...
