BobCAD tech support is helping me; it looks as though my problem is that I did not tell BobCAD what the stock geometry is.
Hello, all. I'm using BobCAD v23 mill, with Artsoft.
I created a brake light matrix to hold LEDs (create a cube, then create a pattern of small cylinders, then subtract the cylinders to create a...
Thank you- you're a lifesaver! I've ordered the encoder and will wait (entirely without patience) by the mailbox.
I am adding a 4th axis to an existing 3-axis machine. I'm using a Gecko 320X servo driver to run a Reliance Electric servo.
The servo does not have an encoder.
Since the 320 requires an encoder...
DC brushed. It'll be driven by a Gecko 320X. I don't know what brand/model the BOB is... I could not find anything useful silkscreened on to it.
The rest of the motors are Reliance Electric M100s...
I'm adding a fourth axis to my machine. The current three axes are run by 120V servos. Where can I buy a 120V servo, preferably on a NEMA23 frane?
Thank you.
I am adding a fourth axis to our 3-axis mill. Currently, the axes are driven by 120 volt servos. Do I need to stick with a 120V servo for the fourth axis, or can I use any voltage?
Also, what kind...

I will post those as soon as I visit the mill. Thank you.
We have an RF-31 mill, already converted to 3-axis CNC with servos. I'm planning to add a 4th axis. How do I choose a servo?
The current axes are powered by Reliance Electric Micro100 servos,...
Thank you.
We just purchased a Rong fu 31 mill which was converted to CNC. It has three axes right now, driven by DC servos.
We have two possibilities for cash crops on the mill. Both require a fourth axis....
As it happens, this became moot to me this morning when I went in on a purchase of an RF-31, already converted to CNC.
Our new RF-31
I've learned from this thread, though, and I thank you all...
These replies do help. I'll keep plotting and planning.
I've read through the existing X3 threads but not found what I am looking for: a basic explanation of what components are needed to complete a CNC conversion. The existing posts assume that the...
Thank you for advice re: motor sizes. I was basically using those just to compare oranges to oranges.
What are the advantages of steppers vs servos, then?
Preface- I'm planning to buy an X3 mill; I chose the X3 because it is big enough for my hobbies but small enough to move without great pain (I will be moving cross-country in the next year or so)

As others have said, noise from a hard drive is bad- particularly if the noise is getting louder/shriller. Back up soon and plan to replace the drives.
If you just have noisy hard drives in an...
What do you want to do with the computer?
Thank you.
I have a question that is probably quite basic to anyone who has CNC experience: if I have a program for a three-dimensional shape (say, a Volkswagen Bug), can I mill out a large model a foot long...
I'm very new to machine tools. How does one choose a power supply? Would it make sense to seriously overengineer it and get a much larger one than is currently needed?
I'm daydreaming about an X3...
I have one and it works great... for 45-90 degrees. Unfortunately it won't do the shallower angles for me. Is there a simple way to do this with a CNC mill?
I'm working on a project- building a recumbent trike. One of the steps that has me stumped is that I have to cut the 2" tubing so that it will mate up to another 2"tube at an angle. For right angle...
The chainsaws I've used have been rather stronger than I would expect to use for an RC car. I haven't looked at your plans in detail, so if I'm off-base please tell me :) but would a smaller IC motor...
LazyCam, which comes with Mach3, does have the ability to scale.
I don't yet have a mill, so this is still all theoretical, but I'm satisfied that I will be able to change model scales at will,...
54 views and no replies. Oh, well.
I'll download the demo of Mach3 and see if I can find it out myself.
I've worked a bit with antweight (1 lb /454 g) bots for a local competition. The vast majority are just remote-controlled vehicles, true, but the rules allow you to use 2lbs if your bot is...
I'm very new to machining- I have used a Bridgeport knee mill to make a few parts for a bicycle project.
I'm daydreaming about using a CNC mill to create cars for my model train layout.
I work...
