Our PRO boards have MUCH less hiss than the older 4AUPC boards. Allegro has done their homework on this.

Reread the step about the voltage check before installing the chips. It gives a clue as to what components to check. LOOK very carefully for poor solder joints and/or bridges.
Between 12 and 42VDC input MUST show 5.0-5.2VDC at the +5VDC pad.

U5 the LM317 controls the +5VDC. Maybe you have a solder bridge that overloaded it. Or maybe simply a component failure.
