  1. Re: Alphacam - visual basic error - need help - APM

It could be an Microsoft update problem. https://www.computerworld.com/article/3431699/microsoft-warns-of-visual-basic-vba-and-vbscript-procedure-call-errors-after-august-patches.html
  2. Re: Using Fusion 360 with highly modified Emco Lathe

As long as you tell Fusion where the front of the part is, then no problem, modified or not. Fusion assumes that X 0 is the spindle centerline. You have to tell Fusion which end of the part is the...

    Re: Interrupted turning in aluminum

You won't have a problem. The inserts will live just fine. I make the 304 SS part below that gets a slot milled in it, then turned. The inserts are good for about 60 parts before I change them,...
  5. Re: Have Tree 310 w/ 3 phase power. Best solution to hook to my shops Single Phase 24

OK, a senior moment, I'm 70 so I can have those. :) I did those about 5 years ago. You made me get up from my chair and go out the the shop to look at a modified tool holder. You are correct, I did...
  6. Re: Have Tree 310 w/ 3 phase power. Best solution to hook to my shops Single Phase 24

I just used my 13 inch lathe and carbide tool bits, the $2.00 ones from Harbor Freight, 1/2 inch AR-8, but I suppose any decent carbide bit would do.

I didn't take any material off of the bottom...
  7. Re: Have Tree 310 w/ 3 phase power. Best solution to hook to my shops Single Phase 24

I did buy some standard NMTB 30 holders, I just turned down the flange, and also narrowed it up a bit.

Re: MultiCAM MG101 Gutted & Reborn

Looks like you did well and your choice of hardware is very good. I have DMM servos on my lathe and they work very well. I don't think you need to worry about the high lead screws, my old router...

Re: Is it cheeper to build

You need to define ''high precision'' and CNC machine. That term seems to mean different things to different people. For some it might mean +/- 0.010 inch, for others it might mean +/- 0.0001 inch...

Re: DEEP POCKET AND SMALL RADII

A radiused tooth cutter of proper diameter would work, HSS would be fine. Going to have to be a pretty large diameter cutter, something like 6 or more inches, is your horizontal machine large enough...
  11. Re: Have Tree 310 w/ 3 phase power. Best solution to hook to my shops Single Phase 24

Based on what I can see of the panel, it doesn't look like the spindle is connected to the control panel at all. Maybe there is more than the pictures show.

The QC spindle takes NMTB 30 tooling,...

Re: DEEP POCKET AND SMALL RADII

I'm not sure that the customer is in charge of determining the best way to machine the part. But in any case, it looks like the only difficult radius to machine is at the bottom of the 70° angle, a...

Re: DEEP POCKET AND SMALL RADII

Can you post a picture of the part? Maybe a screenshot of the CAD drawing. I am having a hard time trying to understand what the pocket looks like. 3 inches deep is too much DOC for a normal 3/16...
  14. Re: Have Tree 310 w/ 3 phase power. Best solution to hook to my shops Single Phase 24

If the control uses contactors to run the spindle, those can be used to switch the VFD control circuit and the wiring changes are minimal. You would only need to remove all of the 230V wiring from...

Re: DEEP POCKET AND SMALL RADII

Without a bit more detail it is hard to offer advice. If the inner radius is at the bottom corners of the pocket then a bull nose endmill with the proper radius would be the correct tool to finish...
  16. Re: Need help brainstorming a solution for this mill turn spindle

Looks like you did a great job. Quite a project. Would love to see a wider view of the whole machine.
  17. Re: Have Tree 310 w/ 3 phase power. Best solution to hook to my shops Single Phase 24

If the control system will run on 120V then it would make the most sense to run it from a wall plug, and power the spindle with a 3HP VFD rated for single phase input. This is the way I am running...

  19. Re: Any Good Options for Retrofitting an Old Mori Seiki SL3?

I would replace the DC servos with a more modern system. The servos from DMM Technologies https://store.dmm-tech.com/ are inexpensive and work very well. I use their 1.8KW servos for the axis...
  20. Re: NEMA 34 and DM860A. Low Speeds Stepper Motor Sounds Awful

Sounds like it's hitting the natural resonant frequency of the mechanical system. You might try changing the micro stepping to a different value.

Re: Budget coolant/mist setup? Or no

And I do get a bit nervous, when cutting steel I don't walk away and have a fire extinguisher close by. The E-stop kills the mister. Aluminum is OK, never seen a spark from aluminum.

    This is an...

    Re: Frequency drive question

This is what inverters (called VFDs, frequency drives, or a few other names) are designed to do. The incoming AC (60 Hz in North America) is converted to DC, then is output as a variable frequency...
