Mike, that is very exciting. I haven't posted much because I haven't had anything to add, but have been watching your progress closely.
Can't wait to see the photos and video.

They specialize in scanning 3D models, scaling them up and making large sculptures using a CNC router.
cdpaine, If you haven't used a CNC router before you probably need some application assistance in addition to info about sales and service. Most of the machines mentioned have specific strengths and...
Lewis, here is a picture of my CNC scrollsaw. You can't see it in this picture, but there is another linear rail on the other side of the machine. I have 2 rails in the Y axis and one rail in the X....
I've been thinking about a different approach for stained glass.
I think Gryphon makes a glass cutting bandsaw. I would like to put a X-Y CNC table on the front and simply move the glass around the...

Bill, part sizing depends upon the sophistication of your CAM program.
Usually, the free programs will cut right to the line. If you have a 6mm router bit, then your part will be 3mm per side too...
Bill, maybe not the best way, but this works.
Use the SAVEAS command and save the entire drawing under a new name, let's say PART1.DXF.
Then simply delete everything you don't want and then save...
Bill, yes that is exactly how it is done.
There are about a thousand ways of doing this, but on this forum is a free DXF converter or you can use ACEconverter from DAK engineering....
If you use Geof's idea, you might need to place a piece of Saran Wrap on top of the paper to get a good vacuum.
REVCAM_Bob, Within the limitations of your example, I'd start the 3 minute setup and get it running and then go to the longer setup like already suggested.
But there are other long term solutions...
Chuck, some commercial routers work that way for the exact reasons you state. Also, it helps keep the vacuum ports clean by blowing out any accumulated debris.
Here's a picture of a Thermwood typewriter style toolchanger.
ClemsonGirl, if you are in a rush when implementing a new system you are asking for major problems no matter what system you get. Everything takes twice as long as you expect and that's putting it...
Do a search on this forum. There's a pretty in depth thread about this particular company. One guy even went to visit them at their showroom in Wisconsin.

I agree that you can do what you want with 116 oz-in stepper motors. I have cut .34 deep passes with a .020" stepover using a 1/8" ball nose end mill at 20" per min.
Going to the 270+- oz-in...
Corian is the tradename for a Dupont product. http://www.corian.com/
It is only sold through authorized Corian installers. (That I know of.) Usually these are kitchen countertop manufacturers. ...
mre1000, Make sure you get the name of the person who said to send them back and a proper return authorization number. I went through a similar issue, (wrong length) mailed them back and got new...
Colin, Your machine has the potential to be a design masterpiece of the DIY CNC market!
I am reading all the posts, but don't have much to say. I'm just waiting to see how the slides work, dust...
senor J. , if you need 3 axis digitizing, I can do some for you.
Maximum work area for the PIX-30: 12-by-8-by-2.4 inches You can put in taller parts, but the scanning area is only 2.4" high.
I...
I have been debating about getting one of those myself. I have the PIX 30, but it won't do a full 3D sculpture. I've seen them go on Ebay for about $5500.
I might be interested in having you...
They should or you get your money back!
Seriously, I've never tried them, but it should work. If you need more functionality, you might have to spend some money.
www.sheetcam.com works well...
www.datakit.com claims to have an EMS file translator.
Just for fun, I downloaded emachineshop, designed some parts, and got some pricing back.
Quite easy, but way too expensive, like...

Free is about as cheap as it gets.
I copied this from Ger21.
Try using A9CAD from www.a9tech.com and ACE converter from www.dakeng.com to create your g-code.
Both free.
ACE will work with...
Terry, you question is not as simple as it seems. You have to say what you are trying to do in order to give a meaningful answer.
Your cheapest solution (that I know of): Take back TurboCAD....
Sorry to intrude on your thread, but here's the link for the CNC long arm quilter.

I think that there are more types out there, but this site is very informative.
thunterman, Good job. I downloaded the video and it started playing at about 50% download and didn't have a problem.
Somewhere on the web, I remember a site with a CNC controlled long arm...
Ok, JFettig helped me shrink my movie file down small enough to upload. I zipped it because AVI isn't one of the acceptable file types
You will need the DIVX codec of at least 5.2.1 to view this...
I use Meshcam daily. I sculpt or carve prototypes by hand, then digitize them to get a 3D STL file and use Meshcam to create the cutting files.
It works well, but the files are huge and it takes...
