  1. Re: Retrofitting a spindle chiller onto a Fadal VMC15

Thanks Rodney! Good idea to check with air beforehand!
  2. Re: Retrofitting a spindle chiller onto a Fadal VMC15

I believe the drawing I posted above has the ports labelled correctly. I have not fully hooked it up yet but I did plumb it in while re-assembling the machine.

    Re: Recommendations for smallish VMC?

I have found all my machines through Kijiji... The key is to setup 'saved searches' for relevant keywords so when an ad comes up you are notified about it before anyone else is :)
  4. Retrofitting a spindle chiller onto a Fadal VMC15

    Hey all!
I'd like to retrofit a spindle chiller onto my VMC15, but I need to get clarification on which ports on the spindle are used for plumbing this in... Hopefully someone will be able to answer...

    Re: Recommendations for smallish VMC?

    Nice!

Buying new is always going to be smoother... If you absolutely need to get up and running and making parts ASAP then buying used is not a good idea I don't think. Unless you have a very good...

    Re: Recommendations for smallish VMC?

I bought a Fadal VMC10 (same as VMC15 but without the enclosure) and have overall been very happy with it. However I have done a fair bit of work fixing the machine up over the years. It has all been...
  9. Re: Looking at buying a Fadal VMC10. Thoughts? Anything I need to look for?

Depending on how things work out I may be looking for an additional machine before the year is out.. The 4020s are nice machines! Where abouts are you located?
  10. Re: Looking at buying a Fadal VMC10. Thoughts? Anything I need to look for?

Not from what I've seen! I'm sure the chips are much cooler by the time they hit the floor...

The machine has been doing a fair amount of work, and overall running very well!

    Here's some...
  11. Re: New machine: small, sturdy, high performance. Input needed!

    Thanks mate!

The machine does actually have a 16 station ATC, it's just a bit slow which might have given you the impression I was hand-loading tools...
  12. Re: New machine: small, sturdy, high performance. Input needed!

Just stumbled across this thread again, thought you guys might like an update!

I ended up getting a Vertical Machining Center, after a lot of searching I found a beat up Fadal VMC10 for a very...
  13. Re: Looking at buying a Fadal VMC10. Thoughts? Anything I need to look for?

Cool, I will keep the steel dust thing in mind! I'll be machining G10 as well which is way nastier, may have to resort to coolant for that to keep the dust in check.

I use Solidworks for CAD and...
  14. Re: Looking at buying a Fadal VMC10. Thoughts? Anything I need to look for?

    Hey mate!
I went up to Ottawa to inspect the VMC10 yesterday, and I will be buying it! The machine is in great shape and has low hours on it.

I'll likely get the sheet metal place down the street...
  15. Re: Looking at buying a Fadal VMC10. Thoughts? Anything I need to look for?

Thanks mate! I'm looking forward to it as I'm starting to burn out a bit doing all the repetitive processes by hand as I'm sure you can imagine!

I'm flying up to inspect the machine on Wednesday,...
  16. Re: Looking at buying a Fadal VMC10. Thoughts? Anything I need to look for?

Thanks mate! It may be worthwhile having someone look the machine over, because I'm going to have to spend $500 or so fly up there and see it anyway. If I can spend that money on someone that knows...
  17. Looking at buying a Fadal VMC10. Thoughts? Anything I need to look for?

    Hey guys!
I'm looking at buying a '94 Fadal VMC10 with the 88HS control. It's the first machine I've seen that is within my price range and will actually fit in my space. I plan to use it for low...

    Thanks for the response mate!

I went and had a look at the machine today. Got an electrician in to power it up temporarily. The spindle drive wouldn't come on, and on closer inspection scorch...

    Hey Guys!
I've been looking around for a 'smallish' machining center for a while, was originally planing to buy new or nearly new but seems I can't afford to do that. While looking around for other...

I'm unlikely to go smaller than 1/8" for any of my work. I will be doing some engraving, but in very small areas, using single line fonts and the cycle time is relatively unimportant there...

Love the toolchanger on those machines, clever design! I'll make a note to find out more about the Brother machines.

I got some more quotes back today:

    Hurco VM5i - $66k

    Re: Recommendations for smallish VMC?

In Downtown Toronto, which is why getting a large machine like this can be a little interesting!

At least I'm no longer working out of my bedroom, getting a VMC in there would be a challenge :)

I saw those briefly the other day, they look very cool with their unique toolchanger design! Are the Fanuc Robodrills the same machine, or do they just share the toolchanger design?
