Re: Can this be modeled is Solidworks?

That can be modelled in Fusion rather easily using the "sculpt" menu. It use to be Tsplines but now they call is "Sculpt." It is quite easy.

I could also model that in solidworks but being...

    Re: Tapping program question

I'm too paranoid to use rigid peck tapping on my fadals. Broke a tap in very expensive part so i don't do that anymore. But good to hear about Larry's results.

    Re: Fadal VMC 3020 HT

Something similar happened to my fadal that turned out to be a loose wire. But I'm not much help either as I do not have the Calmotion retrofit. Good luck.

    Re: Dnc problem

I keep an old laptop with serial just for drip feed. but if you are going to run your business with this machine making molds I highly recommend the Calmotion USB adapter so you can run your code...

    Re: Fadal 4525 questions

I never had another pump for washdown on any of my Fadal CNCs. (I'm at 4 machines now). It is just a T off the coolant pump and a regular hand held garden sprayer for washdown.

Re: Guides for naming part features?

Just make sure you are consistent and document why a feature is named what it is.
  9. Re: is there a trend about patenting "common stuff" ?

For a demonstration of how absurd the patent system is the "combover" is patented. In my experience patents are not worth it for the small shop. Unless you have bigger lawyers and more money some...

Re: Any usable Les Paul 3d files?

I cheated and made my neck pad (where the neck meets the body) angled. Much easier to do that with a 3D surface cut then it was to make an angled jig for the body at the time.

Re: Can you raise the Z axis ???

I say go for it. The Fadals are so easy to work on and Rodney is a massive source of support. He helped me rebuild my Z axis head and I forever greatful for his generosity and knowledge.

    I just...
  12. Re: VMC-15 Needs More Memory - Does Old Memory Have Any Value?

Does it have to be internal memory? No drip feeding? Calmotion makes an ethernet based unit for $500. The USB to CNC board is on a few of my machines. They are great.

Re: Looking at buying a Fadal

Sending out my Z carriage for new turcite with shipping was about $2000. It was not a fun project.
  14. Re: Need professional advice- Alphacam+SCM+Homag

The CAM package has no bearing on the machine. The machine simply does exactly as it is told. Go here that fast is about it. It is a post processor issue you are having. It should be pretty easy...

    New Fadal Machines

Business has been good and I am looking to get a couple more CNCs. Does anyone here have experience with the new Fadals that are being produced in California??? I'd like to stick with Fadal.

    Re: Spindle drive vibration

The nice thing about the belt drive is they are not under tension until it is used. It could be a large amount of goop stuck in the belt and sheave. I recently rebuilt my entire Z axis head and you...

  19. Re: Plug and Play CNC retrofit kit for an older CNC?

I'm not sure about that model. Does it have a tool change? Most of the retrofit kits are not difficult to install. The hard part is when you need to tweek the PLC program for the tool changer. ...

    Re: Fusion 360 opinions

I have zero hesitation recommending Fusion. There is only one version now. I think it is $500 a year. But that is a bargain considering SW charger $1500 a year WITHOUT CAM. I'm not at all worried...
  21. Re: Hi feed milling or heavy cutting with a Fadal

Ditto on the HSM. I got rid of all my insert milling for chromoly steel and use small endmills at full depth cuts. What took 4 hours with an insert mill now takes me 45 minutes on my old 1997 Fadal.

Re: Fusion 360 on old CNC?

Should work fine. Just make sure you can DNC. I ran molds on a 1978 Tree Journyman with a BTR (Behind Tape Reader) upgrade to allow serial communication with a computer. Ran just fine. I know...

    Re: Mastercam

Mastercam charges you $1000 if you fart to close to your computer. The only reason I would use MC is because it is so common and the local college teaches it.

As for buying a legit license I...
