The original electronics used a DOS based PC. I intend to change all the electronics out for newer equipment. The Centroid Acorn and some Hybrid Steppers.

This is a slantbed lathe. It has a maximum turning size of 2".

I recently bought a Rhino ST6 CNC Lathe from a Craigslist ad. The lathe is is OK shape but has a rusty cabinet. I did some research and it looks like these lathes were made in the 1990s for...
Did the new stepper and brake fix the problem?
I just got back around to posting some videos about the conversion of the G0704 to Leeson motor. Here is the one about removing the stock motor.

I recently interviewed Keith McCulloch and discussed the Centroid Acorn DIY CNC Controller on the CNC Router Tips podcast. I thought some of you may find the information helpful.

Have you released the feed override box for sale?

I wanted the height not the thickness please.
I'm curious what size angle aluminum was used on the bottoms of these covers? Great idea.

I used one of these on my Grizzly G0704. It is 1.5 HP. It might just fit in a 440? It is smaller than most conventional 1.5HP motors....
I just installed mine recently. That is normal. It will work fine.

This looks to be a very handy product. Any idea when they will be available to the general public?

I never was able to get that monitor to work. I was able to get another one working. So I blame the monitor. Tormach swapped it out.

Got the touchscreen but it does not work. I am getting a blue no signal screen. Never see if PP boots up or not. I swapped to another monitor and that works. Guess I will call Tormach Tuesday.
I suspect the Oldham coupling is slipping on the shafts. Place witness marks on the coupling and leadscrew with a Sharpie. Run the Z axis up and down and then see if the witness marks still line up....
I have no idea if the aluminum case is inferior to cast iron since I have never owned a cast iron motor.

If you plan to build a 4x4 you should gret the plans for Joes 4x4 hybrid instead. MDF will sag if much longer than 3'. To build a 4x4 takes about 6'x6' of area. In my opinion building the Hybrid is...
They were metric bolts but I don't remember the size. Take one of the bolts from the mounting feet and try that. Then go to the hardware store to match it.
I will be interested to see how that works out. It would make the upgrade even more attractive.
You are going to need to add 220 for this motor to work.
I think there may be some confusion over which Leeson motor I used. I used a D80C motor. It is 1 1/2HP, 3 phase. I got it from Zoro Tools....
I just posted a video about part of my build of the G0704.

If any one is looking for replacement parts for their G0704, let me know. I did the full Phase 3 conversion and added a 3 Phase motor. The original motor might have an hour worth of run time at most....
Any suggestions for a caulk for the chip pan? Something that is resistant to coolant?
I have all the gears and original parts I took off my G0704 if you are looking for parts.

Aspire retails for $1995.
If you have single phase electricity and you want to use a 3 phase motor, one solution is a variable frequency drive. It converts the single phase to 3 phase and gives you the ability to change the...
A bigger motor (more HP) is capable of delivering more Torque so the bit doesn't bog down as easily. You machine has to be stiff enough to absorb the extra grunt though. I also can run this motor at...
Here is my thread about the Motor and belt drive. http://www.cnczone.com/forums/benchtop-machines/309608-g0704-3-phase-leeson-metric-motor.html. Yes you need a VFD for a 3 phase motor unless you have...
